I watched the story on MSU RB Kenneth Walker over the weekend. It said he entered the transfer portal the day after a game. I don't recall which game but I have a curious question about all the logistics around that. I am assuming he was on scholarship at Wake Forest. What happens to the scholarship once he(or any other athletes, like Levis too) enter the transfer portal in the middle of the season/semester? Does the school still honor the scholarship? Does the new school pick it up? Does the coaching staff keep the athlete on the team once they enter the portal? Do they still get to attend classes thru the end of the semester so the credits can transfer? Was discussing on the logistics around a transfer like that with a colleague and trying to figure out what happens with all that stuff.

I believe this has come up before and it was answered that a player might proceed to start the transfer process during a semester, but they do complete their semester at the school and still have their academic scholarship paying that part. I don't think they remain with the team and enjoy other benefits like training, meals with the team and other support services. They may also lose their COA$$$$ - not sure on that. There is also some discretion by the school they are leaving as to how much help they want to provide. They have to finish their semester academically to transfer as if you drop out = all F's you are not going to be eligible to enter any other accredited university. These guys still are students and are subject to being able to transfer academically. I think this is why most guys finish the season and do their transfer at the end of fall semester or wait to go through spring practice and see where the stand before transfer.
