But the other team knows that. Ergo, take the ball out of the hands of whoever Tre is guarding, lessening his defensive impact. On the other side of the court, simply have the guy guarding Tre essentially abandon him in favor of clogging the paint to help on one of our drivers in Cam, RJ, or Zion. Right now, if you were coaching against Duke, would you tell your PG to seriously guard Tre on the perimeter. If he drives, it is easy enough to tighten back up on him to contest drives. He won't take it to the rim, so a defender knows to close out on the assumption that he will pull up for a J.
.
People are acting like Tre is taking a bunch of shots with a hand in his face. He is WIDE OPEN. If he makes a few of those, his guy will have to guard him when Tre gets the ball on the perimeter. This will open it up for Tre and everyone. But it isn't just him. AOC is a good shooter, but a little too passive when he gets the ball out there. White is cold. RJ and Zion aren't dangerous shooters, so let them shoot. If one or both is hitting from 3, Duke is unbeatable, but that is unlikely to occur. Cam is a good shooter but inconsistent. We've got two guys that can go for 40, each, if they have unimpeded access to a sparsely populated paint. So why guard a team that can't hit from the perimeter, but that can obliterate you in the paint or off the drive.
.
Again, the only way to open it up is to START MAKING THREE POINT SHOTS. They are wide the F open.
