Not if he plays like he did at end of ACC tournament during the NCAA tourney. That probably means we hang 6 though, so I'm cool with that.

Possible! He has fallen to an early second round pick, but I don’t see him sticking around. He would definitely benefit from a another year.

Ive thought about it too, but I mean dude is obviously a pro. Will his stock improve that much? Sure he can develop his shot, but that happens in G-League or on an NBA team even better. So what does he really improve. Not sure his draft stock will ever be in the lottery, so the money is not going to be a huge difference. I'd love to see him come back, but his MO is defense, and play-making and he already does that at an elite level.

Tre is a very polished playmaker and defender. The NBA advises college for polishing fundamentals, not for lack of shooting ability. They believe they can teach it and they certainly can. For example, Tatum is around 40% 3PT in the NBA, around 33% here at Duke. Let’s throw the “stay at Duke and learn to shoot!” theory out the window.

I really, really want him to stay. Forcing myself to realistically admit that it’s smarter for him to go to the NBA is hard, but it’s the truth. He is traditional “1” and Coach K has committed himself to positionless. He doesn’t provide any off-ball attributes to our offense and our style of play is a disservice to his abilities. I’m not claiming that our surrounding talent makes him look better than advertised playmaking wise, but he won’t have it better than he currently does.

Lastly...... I don’t want to bring up negative circumstances and I’m sure his mother is one hell of a fighter, unfortunately cancer can quickly turn for the worse. I pray she defeats the disease and even if so, these circumstances put life in perspective. Most kids want nothing more than to make their parents proud. This could also place a fast-track on his NBA dreams.

Edit: His lack of explosiveness and subpar ability to drive the ball will keep him out of the lottery. Staying an additional year (or even graduating) won’t improve his God-given intangibles. The NBA droooooools over height, potential and athleticism.

I would be very surprised under any circumstance if Tre was back at Duke next season. Very surprised.

If I never read this board and just watched the games, I would assume that Tre would be back next year. He's a great player but defensive point guards who struggle to shoot and even penetrate at times, are not overly valued in the league.

That said, I'm sure the Jones family knows the pros and cons of their situation and will make the best decision for Tre.

Tre is different from his brother. I could see him going and getting a two way contract to start off with but making an actual roster won’t happen. Duval was way better offensively but lacked true pg skills and is a two way player. Tre like Duval can’t shoot from three however is a better on ball defender. He would need the right team looking for an ideal back up to make a roster.

Yea, we win a ship' this year and i don't give a rats *** if we have to field a team from this board.

I jumped to block Eric Gordon’s drive to the basket in high school and failed so miserably they whistled an offensive foul. l don’t miss corner 3’s and I can jump just high enough to graze the rim with my fingertips about once every 4 or 5 tries.

Put me in.

I can actually ball and I dare say I shoot better from three and the free throw line than most of this Duke roster..but I’m not big enough at 6’4 to guard inside and I’m to damn slow laterally to guard any guards so K would never play me..I’m like Shaq in the church league at 6’4..

I dominate my league too. Sometimes, I stop coaching, take the ball, and school those 2nd graders.

I guess it would surprise me if Tre left. I’m sure that has been the plan all along, however he doesn’t shoot particularly well and he doesn’t create very often on the offensive end. It would suprise me if someone drafted him in the first round the way the game is played in the NBA today..If he developed a consistent shot I could see it next year..I think he makes the jump and ends up in Europe by and by..

Can’t let the old men in the church league fool you...I like when the young ones come in and get run off the floor from their High School teams..I learned that lesson long long ago. When you walk into the gym and can smell the Bengay you know you have some players..lol

I said this same thing to my son yesterday. But then I read the board. The business decisions in basketball as pointed out by many here make sense. Is his draft stock going to get any higher by coming back? Couldn't he improve faster by playing in the G league against better talent?

I would LOVE to have him back for 3 more years. Yeah, okay, one would be nice too. But it's just way it is these days, and I would be shocked if he stayed. :(

^This. Hey Show, like your idea, but thought I better inform you of my status on the team, if needed.
After long thought and consideration, I have come to the conclusion that I was never as good as I thought I was, and now my back goes out more than I do! :( Please accept my withdrawal from consideration, but I promise I will root for you guys and stay behind you until the very end. :)
Go Duke!
