Congrats to UNO hockey, which will open the new Baxter Arena...built by Trev and company...as the #1 Division 1 hockey team in the country. Trev is proving that he has the right stuff to lead a program to success. Upon becoming AD, his first hire was to bring onboard THE top college coach in the US (what a concept), Dean Blais...2-time national champion at North Dakota and 2010 World Junior champion.
GO MAVS!

I will always hate the guy for killing UNO football and the marching band. Hockey is for Canadians.

Trev happened to be in charge when they flipped the switch, but did he really kill it, like personally kill it? I don't know the answer, but I find it very difficult to believe Trev just woke up one day and decided to shut the program down. However, I think it's a point in his favor for having the gonads to make a big decision based on what was best for his University.

Trev does a fine job. I just found myself on the other side of the coin on that decision is all. I had a vested interest in the programs that were shut down and as was pointed out, I can't skate. :)

So you're saying if Trev was our AD he'd be able to hire Saban or Meyer? If you believe that you're total potato. This is hockey we're talking about. A sport that is only played in the northeast and midwest that has fewer than 60 D1 teams.

I just don't know what to tell you if you don't understand the differences in the situations.

If you don't shoot for the moon, you'll never reach it. I would have been unfathomable at one time to think Blais would come to UNO. Trev tried and it worked. Big credit to him.

On another note, is it ok to root for UNO hockey and then NU sports? We need to make sure the fan rule czars ok this.

LOL...you don't need to tell me anything, Einstein. I think one is a total "potato" not recognize that same corp executive and leadership competencies are required from the chief executive of any D1 athletic department at the highest level. Things like fund raising, booster relations, communication, media relations, leadership, student-athlete academic achievement, and overall program supervision are all required to develop a championship program. Like I said, someone that doesn't understand that frankly lacks the cognitive ability to comment on the subject.

As for hockey being a regional sport, good thing Blais doesn't agree with that otherwise he would have missed out on the best goal scorer on the team, Aston Ortega, and Grant Gallo...both are So. California guys. BTW, Ortega last year set the all-time NCAA record for most game winning goals in a season.

You still haven't answered the first question. You implied Trev would go out and hire a National Championship coach -- what a concept. You backing off that now?

I do agree those traits are important and necessary for a AD. Trev has some of them, but lacks in others. Trev had one bite at the apple with a football team. Managed it so well he had to kill the program. I suppose he could have hired a NC coach then, but he couldn't or wouldn't.

And if hockey isn't a regional sport, can you tell me where Ortega played his high school hockey? Because he certainly didn't stay in the hockey hotbed of CA to play.

Not backing off of anything...he hired the best coach out there...period. You can't do better than that, can you?

As for Trev's executive skills, I seriously doubt that you are in much of a position to evaluate his strengths and weaknesses on the job. However, by any objective measure, his tenure as AD at UNO has been incredibly successful...beautiful new arena, quality sports programs while moving up a division in the NCAA, and outstanding student-athlete GPAs. Only an imbecile would argue otherwise. Furthermore, your "one bite at the apple" is complete BS. UNO needed to make sound financial decisions when moving from D2 to D1 and it would appear that Alberts did just that. Get over it...comparing UNO football to NU is like comparing apples to washing machines.

For the record, both Ortega and Gallo played midget hockey (do you even know what that is?) in California and junior in the Midwest and East, respectively. The fact that hockey has taken off on the left coast shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, even to you. After all, 3 of the last 9 Cup winners have been from the LA area.

Other than showing your childishness and ignorance, I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish or prove here.

If NU ever needed another AD when Eichorst leaves for UW, take one from a successful football program like BSU or UofL

And where did I say that? Oh, right, I didn't...nice try though. But, does Trev have the requisite skill set to be an AD at NU? Looking at his performance at UNO...I'd say yes.
