No - I was not on the list. Not considered even by accident.

I believe there were some crazy omissions from the list ... and one inclusion who was a local guy by me, that caused us all of to respond like MCGregor: Who the fook is that guy? (We knew him but it was still WTF - not even all area for a reason.)

Played against a first team D player in the finals - he was more effective on offense that day. All around great player. A gentleman too.

The ESL Junior Qb Singleton - yup, he was a player,. He was slinging it before everyone went to the air. ESL’s WR Homer Bush (Yankees WS Champ) and Althoff’s Hickey Thompson were first team too.

And of course, John Horn - top OL prospect in the state. That paid off.

John Horn.... the largest high school football player I think I’ve ever seen.

Kind of surprised that Willowbrook's Mike Sheldon wasn't selected as an All-State offensive lineman and even more shocked at the size of the lineman back then.

You have to figure that was a full generation ago - kids get bigger. Compare 1990 sizes to the 1960s and they would all be considered monsters.

No I understand, I was a senior in '89 and weight wise small for a lineman (185), my son is a JR and 260 and in better shape than I was at 185. That being said, I expected the best of the best in the state to be a bit larger, even in 1990.

Consider these two from 1991 - Matt went on to win the Butkus Award three years after Dana Howard won it. That's still a good-sized backer.

Linebacker: Matt Russell, Belleville East, 6-2, 230, sr. Clemson, USC, Pitt and Illinois are recruiting this big hitter who registered 110 tackles in only the first seven games with four sacks, three fumble recoveries, one interception, four blocked extra-point kicks and one blocked field goal.

And the best lineman I ever saw - Jim Stiebel, Belleville Althoff, 6-4 1/2, 242 - he also played center for the basketball team and pitched a complete game in our state finals in the spring of 1991.

He packed on HUGE size once on campus and focused only on football.

I dont know. The average size of the linemen on the team is 6'4 250lbs. That's decent sized

yeah, that's not bad, I just recalled seeing some 220lb guys (both teams) and now I've reached my limit of free articles and can't go back and look.

The second team average was 6'3" - 236 and one of those guys was 6'9".

One trick: load the Tribune page, slept all, then paste is text. Put that in a word doc – you get all the content, just not in layout fashion

So I'm a sophomore shot putter in the same regional with ESL. I walked up to Dana and said I'm throwing right after you.

He looks at me sideways, as he is the #1 seed ... and I finished, "In the second round."

So the first round ends - the ESL weigh coach doing the marks - Dana threw one just about 60 feet. I get in the ring and tell the guy, "You better step back some."

I finished last or near it - but I got the most laughs!

Same as going to outline.com but some less tech saavy people get confused. No offense to anyone by my comment but it can get squirrly looking at URLs but this shaves off a few seconds of going to outline.com.
LMAO....You cannot insult my computer skills unless you ask me stuff like "is it plugged in?". I'm a Tech Idiot. :D

In my sophomore year (1960 season): Dick Butkus (CVS); Jim Grabowski (Packers) and Al MacFarlane (Rams) from Taft: and Tony Carey (Bears - briefly) and Dan Goich (Giants) Mt Carmel.

I didn't think it necessary to mention where Dick played in the NFL.

Note that Grabowski was one of the "Gold Dust Twins" (along with Donny Anderson of Texas Tech) who signed with the Packers for a total in excess of a million dollars (during the AFL/NFL) battles.

Playing against Butkus trumps playing against Butkus Award winners!

I know one of his U of I teammates who was also a CPS alum, according to him, every Butkus story is true if it involves him being mean and nasty.

You're very welcome. It's fairly handy - doesn't work on all sites but covers a good majority of them. There are other methods around paywalls but I won't bore everyone with details. I use it for the trib and suntimes, mainly.

Now the Tribune ignores high school sports. The only stories they write about high school football is to support their theory of the demise of the sport.

Their coverage was always second-rate anyway.
