Titans shutout Benedictine in a rain-delayed state title rematch
Trinity Episcopal scored on their opening drive, and they made that score stand with a 7-0 win over 3-time defending state champion Benedictine. Junior quarterback Deacon Skogen led an 11-play drive, finding KJ Harris for an 11-yard touchdown connection.
After allowing 43 points last week to Roanoke Catholic, the Titans defense completely shut down the Cadets offense. They forced six punts, recorded three sacks, and added both a fumble recovery and an interception. Benedictine finished with five 1st downs and had less than 75 total yards from scrimmage.
Skogen completed 15 of 23 passes for 148 yards and one touchdown. Running back C.J Gray led the rushing game with 17 carries for 62 yards. KJ Harris is starting to develop into a college wide receiver recruit, and he had a second strong performance to start the season, finishing with 3 receptions for 60 yards and a touchdown.
The game was originally scheduled for Friday, and there was a rain delay in the 2nd quarter before play resumed with a 3-minute halftime. It was a rematch of the VISAA State championship, which Benedictine won. This should be the 1st of two meetings between the teams.
