Well I've been saving up for this. The stars are aligning for Mark Hudspeth to be the next head football coach of the Ole Miss Rebels. I have been called delusional because of my support of Hud. I have been through bannation because of my support for him. But every thread I have ever started or commented on about Hudspeth have been in a direct attempt to avoid what is about to happen. I am just going to go on the record here and say that when they hire him, its the end of Mississippi State football. Every recruit in the state will want to play for him and he will coach circles around Mullen. When he beats Hugh Freeze this weekend to clinch the Sunbelt its gonna make the decision very easy for Ole Miss. Considering how "unqualified" this board said he was for the MSU job 3 years ago, I'm sure most of you will disagree with this post and continue to tell me what a dumbass I am and that I should remove his penis from my mouth. But what you dont realize is that you should be praying that one of the big names says yes because in a year or two you won't be able to call it delusion anymore. The next few years are going to be rough. Hope you are all prepared. Maroon Legacy said it best. Ole Miss will back their way into a great hire and we will be left behind. So that's all. I'm hoping for a Malzahn or Leach myself but you watch. I am braced for the shitstorm of flaming that is about to head my way but I've said my piece. Bring it... love Triton

but there is a little difference in him now and when State hired Mullen. He now has 2 yrs experience as a SEC OC and 1 year experience as a D-1 head coach. I don't think you can underestimate that experience. Like I said I don't know nearly as much about the guy as you do, but he sounds and looks like a winner. I'm sure OM could do a lot worse and has.

While I believe you are blowing this way out of proportion and that you may be slightly insane... I do kind of agree with you. I really don't want Hud to go to OM I think he is a great coach and hope he can come here one day. It was always my understanding that he was brought onto Mullen's staff with the knowledge that he was more or less the coach in waiting... heck if i remember correctly he was hired before Mullen. I think the idea was for him to work under Mullen for several years and when Dan finally left he would ascend the thrown... but their personalities just didn't work together and he had to go get some experience elsewhere...

Here's to hoping they go with Freeze or someone else...

he will be OUR head coach and MSU has done absolutely nothing wrong relative to Hudspeth. In fact, Hud will be a top candidate here NOW if Mullen were to leave. But 3 years ago with only D2 HC experience he wasn't going to get our job. Name one D2 HC that has gone straight to a HC job in the SEC. Just doesn't happen. I have no doubt though that he is a great recruiter. I still believe his leaving last year was THE biggest factor in our recruiting class slipping at the end.

Hud is a good recruiter and would be a great hire by OM, but the original poster is sensationalizing big time.

The only person he landed in the 2010 class was Malcolm Johnson so it's not like Hud was blazing a recruiting trail while at State. And I'm going to guess we lost more recruits due to Diaz leaving than Hud.

So it'll take 2 people turning down the job for him to get a chance at it. I frankly think those odds are pretty good. Hell of a good coach.

left... to get experience as a HC so that he could come in when Mullen left? If he is hired at OM will that not end his quest for his dream job at State? I suppose that if he were to go to OM we'd all see the real Hud and come to realize it was never about State and his dream job.

He left State to get more HC experience, especially at the D1 level, so he could come back to his dream job in Starkville.

So you are telling us that he has no greater interest than just being a HC in MS? Why is that and what is wrong with being a D1 HC where he is right now?

his parents live in Louisville and most importantly, his son in Grenada. He is the rare exception to the rule that a successful coach will not stay at a MS school.

Why is the State job Hud's dream job? Has he outright said that, or is there some State connection that can be used forinference? Not **, just don't know.

..you speculate on a series of plausible yet unlikely coincidences taking place, which sounds reasonable enough to make people think you are on to something.

I would say the odds of the events happening the way you have them laid out is about a hundred thousand to one.

Yet it all sounds compelling enough to stir up a messageboard, so congratulations.

what were the odds of him winning his conference before the season started? if someone would have told you that over 40000 people would watch ulala and ulm play this year, what would you have said the odds of that would be?

you aren't far from home. He'd be wise to stay at his current school since he's done so well and be a Savior there. He doesn't want the mess that is OM

who grew up in UM's backyard, coached for Vaught (WRs at that) and then was a successful HC at MSU for some pretty good years (that were later borked by the NCAA).

Then: a UM man and former coach became a successful HC at MSU.
Now: an MSU man and former coach may become HC at UM.

It's strange enough that I can buy it.

PS - As the father of a current JUCO player, I can assure you that Hud is exactly the kind of coach you want your son to play for: a successful man and good coach that exudes integrity.

I hope he does not go to UM.
