I enjoy aikman calling a game. I think he does a good job. But I was just looking up his stats, never really all that great. He only once threw more than 20 touchdowns, although I know the NFL was not as pass heavy in the 90’s.

I think I was 12 when aikman retired, so I don’t remember much of his career. Is he in the hall of fame because of the Super Bowls or do the stats just not tell the story.

He's football smart and quick to break the previous play down. He also never seems to get excitable like many of the other color guys do unless there is an exceptional play. I like that.

Legal hits on the QB in those days would get you a nickel in the can these days. And Nobody was going over the middle, except for Rice maybe, just couldn’t catch or square that dude up. Safeties and Corners were vicious. The difference in that NFL and today’s is akin to church league softball and MLB.
Remember, in those days Ronnie Lott had his finger amputated so he wouldn’t miss a game.

Brady was asked within the last week how the game has changed since he's been in the NFL. He said it used to be a more physical game. Now it's more of a throw and catch skills contest with the rules changes favoring the offense. He now throws passes over the middle he would have never thrown before the rules changes.

Same way everything has changed. Its just soft these days. Our DBs from 1999 couldn't play today. They would all be ejected before the second quarter due to targeting. Imagine Morgan

On a side note, Troy has freakishly, ginormous, disproportionate hands. Seriously, look at him holding something like a pen.

Troy Aikman looks really 17 fit. He’s 54 and looks better than a lot of 30 year olds. I hope I look that good in a few years.

It was a completely different game then, but he also didn’t compare that favorably with other QB’s in his era either.

Marino, Montana, Young, Favre, Jim Kelly, and others all had a higher career passer rating than Aikman. Hell, even guys like Trent Green and Mark Brunell that played at about the same time and for the same amount of time had a higher career passer rating. He’s absolutely only in the HOF because of the Super Bowls. Otherwise, he’s not a Top 5 QB and maybe not even Top 10 in his era. Very similar to Eli Manning in that regard. He was definitely a good QB….just not HOF worthy without the hardware.

When the salary cap era started Troy ended up getting too many concussions and quitting football. That’s not really true but I do think him playing in a salary capless era significantly for a while helped his HOF resume.

He was a HOF-caliber QB and it pains me to say it because I hated the Cowboys in that era. For sure, he played behind a great line, and had a HOF RB and WR to help him, but he was clutch in big games and has super bowl rings.

Also the NFL HOF just isn't as hard to get in to. It's not Cooperstown. Most any QB with 2 rings is gonna eventually get in. Eli will eventually make it, and the only reason Big Ben would not would be off the field issues.

Well, that's only 12 QBs over the past 56 years, almost all of which were elite QBs with or without the rings, so it's still pretty elite. BTW, Aikman is one of 4 QBs with more than 2 SB titles.

Multiple Super Bowl rings for a QB almost guarantees the Hall of Fame. Only exception I'm aware of is Jim Plunkett.
