It doesn't take and expert to see this team as some major issues. Much more so than last year. So what do you think the main reason is for all the struggles?

The past coaching staff didn't get the players prepared to play their position. That much is very evident. And they mismanaged the recruiting aspect ten fold. But like hell if I'm gonna make excuses for blatant stupidity. Putting your quarterback in a position to fail was 100% on the coaching staff. You give the ball to Andy again and leave with the win. It's as simple as that. But like Watson and Beck you want to show you're the smartest man in the room. Unbelievable.

4 things - transition to new system, depth issues, major injuries at key positions and obvious poor preparation/coaching in the secondary. Illinois was the only game I questioned play calling. We should match up better with the remaining teams but probably 6 or 7 win season. Year 2 will be better!

I happen to be watching "a football life bill belichick" and they were in a similar situation and Belichick stated we are not going to pass, run the ball, don't not pass.

The last thing I'll say in all my years of watching Husker football, that was the worst coached game offensively I've ever seen......MR and DL deserve every bit of heat and then some for that mess.

Its hard to know since in football everything, players, coaches, schemes ect.. all need to work as one unit to be a winning team.

I think this team has talent, maybe not to the level of a top 25 team but to level that we should have destroyed southern mis and illinois. So for me in mainly comes down to players mentality and coaching. Breaking that down even more. It is the job of the coaching staff to get players mentally ready for a game. If a players isn't mentally really it is the job of the coach to recognize this and replace him with someone who it.
This Alex Lewis dude is prime example, he should never be playing, never be a captain and probably should never even be on the team. If this team is filled with guys like this it is easy to see why they mentally break down every game. This all falls on MR to an extent. I do see a positive on his part that he is starting to put in some freshman and younger guys. My hope is it is to weed out the negative mentality.
Who knows any more really. I break it down like this:

60% coaching issues
30% player mentality
10% player talent

I'd like to add another category: Extremely bad luck. No, I don't believe this team should be 5-0 after the first five games, but I also don't believe they deserve to be 2-3, but that's the fact. To imagine a hail mary, an OT interception and then a missed execution of what should have been a clock killing play... I just can't fathom all three of these things happening. Are there things that can be fixed? Absolutely. Did I plan on a 12-0 season? Nope.

I still think the future of this team is bright. We've seen several cases where the new offensive system leaves players wide open. If we can get more production from the run game and the D keeps improving, I think next year could still be a very special season.
