Supposedly she is likely the best player in the nation bar none. She should win, but she won't.

This is the third different time in which we have had arguably one of the nation's top three or four players at any time. I looked it up and found this:

Kellie Wilkerson (2002) - four time All-American, four time All-SEC. Hit .429 for a career and still holds the NCAA record for saves.
Iyhia McMichael (2004) - two time All-American, finished second in National Player of the Year voting in '04. No. 1 draft pick in Pro Fastpitch draft
Chelsea Bramlett (2010) - already a three-time All-American, probably a four timer. Two time finalist for National Player of the Year. Named top catcher in the nation the last two years. Stole 54 bases last year in 58 attempts.

We can get some damn good players obviously - why can't we get out of a regional muchless get to the World Series? Hell, we have only had one season in the past 10 years with a winning SEC record. The SEC is tough, we've made regionals eight of the past 10 years despite that. This is perplexing how great of players we get, yet we are not an impressive team.

Look at these other MSU sports since 2000.
Women's Basketball: All-Americans La Toya Thomas 2000-2003 and Tan White 2005 = no Sweet 16.
Men's Basketball: All-American Lawrence Roberts 2004 = no Sweet 16.
Baseball: Conner Powers (having an All-American year currently) = We'll be damn lucky just to make the SEC tournament.

One day it will come together for us in something besides frisbee golf or flag football.

I mean crazy! I took my daughter to watch them play southern a couple of weeks ago. She would steal bases at will. One time she was on 2nd, the coach obviously gave her the steal sign, she smiled, nodded her head "yes" repeatedly and gave 2 thumbs up! It was clear to everyone in Hattiesburg Mississippi she was going to steal. Well, she took 3rd on the next pitch and the USM catcher was just wasting her time throwing to 3rd. At the summer softball camp, Coach Jay Miller offered all the high school girls at the camp a full paid scholarship to MSU if they could outrun her. (he did this 2 days in a row) Nobody came close. The girl can fly.

so I sort of keep up with things. She is something special as far as her speed. Just read in the CL that she has stolen 55 consecutive bases. Think about that. 55 for her last 55 in stolen base attempts. A single becomes a triple just like that, and she's hitting .500 this season. That is a weapon. How the hell we are 3-9 in the SEC is beyond me.

our program has been pretty damn good considering its only been around for about 12-15 years. We are regularly in regionals. Those top teams are just damn good.

Bad to average teams in all sorts of sports all over the country have great players.

but I had to vote for JV. He holds a NCAA record and won a national award. To top it off, heis the only one of the four to give up his scholarship for the betterment of the team- that alone puts him above the rest.

And yet it is a sport that is DOMINATED by 1 player...the pitcher. If you have an elite pitcher, nothing happens...all game.It is perhaps the least interesting thing to watch.

Now a game with mediocre pitchersis interesting because there is some actual play going on.
