In yet another attempt to discredit the media, the so called prez tells another big one. Can't wait to hear the defense of this one. Kellyanne Conway sure stumbled with it on CNN. He's right saying the media doesn't cover it and that's because it's a lie.

President Trump met Tuesday morning with a group of sheriffs from the National Sheriffs Association, a group that consists of more than 3,000 sheriffs from around the country. And to this sworn group of law enforcement veterans, with reporters taking notes, he again repeated a falsehood about the murder rate in America.

Trump told the sheriffs, “the murder rate in our country is the highest it’s been in 47 years.” He blamed the news media for not publicizing this development, then added, “But the murder rate is the highest it’s been in, I guess, 45 to 47 years.”

The country’s murder rate is not the highest it’s been in 47 years. It is almost at its lowest point, actually, according to the FBI, which gathers statistics every year from police departments around the country.

[What Trump says about crime in America and what is really going on]

The murder rate is defined as the number of murders and non-negligent homicides per 100,000 residents. Beginning in 1957, when the rate was 4.0 murders per 100,000 residents, the rate rose steadily to a high of 10.2 in 1980. It then steadily dropped, to 7.4 in 1996, to 6.1 in 2006, to 4.4 in 2014. It went up in 2015 to 4.9. But that is less than half the murder rate of 1980, while the population has risen from 226 million in 1980 to 321 million in 2015.

The violent crime rate in America also has plummeted over the years. Defined as including murder, rape, robbery and aggravated assault, violent crimes peaked at a rate of 758 per 100,000 residents in 1991, and the rate was about 373 violent crimes per 100,000 in 2015, again a decline of more than half.

Any potential that he was talking about total deaths vs. rates?

He went on a twitter tirade saying that there were 3-5 million illegal voters and it was all based on a fake twitter feed. Common sense?

He mentioned a story and asked a question but dont let facts get in the way of a tall tale.

He has to lie everyday so the public can't remember the one from yesterday. And apologetic fools like devil-idiot and dave-moron slop it up. Nothing new.

Hey look at that. Bru is trying to be clever. He's as bad at that as he is at being self aware.

It's pretty sad that you get a thrill out of posting that. Why don't you post how many drug overdoses happen in WV or how many millions of painkillers are sold every year to drug addicts and dealers? I'm guessing West Virginians are the wrong color for your political agenda. This, what you are doing, is exactly why so many good people hate Trump and his disgusting fans.

Very easy for those wishing to do all possible to look at any utterance from the President without any real assessment of background info. Unless your agenda is to emphasize anything in a negative light even if the data or info could be interpreted more than one way. Above all-- does it really matter in the grand scheme of what the man is attempting and accomplishing for the good of the Country? Also do not recall all this much press for ALL the lies told by Obama. Many of his lies had really great significance to many citizens.

If Obama was anything like Trump, he wouldn't have been elected.. twice. Stop demanding Obama respect for DonnieJ. Never going to happen. That being said, I'd like to hear a few examples of Obama's "many lies of great significance".

Yes it does matter because it's part of his ongoing/daily effort to discredit the media. He made a false statement (lie?) about the current murder rate in the U.S. and then blamed the media for not reporting it which is laughable. They did a different version of the same thing yesterday by stating that there are so many (radical Islam) terrorist attacks worldwide that the media isn't covering them well enough and Trump stated that the media is doing it on purpose. They then trot out a list of terror attacks that they claim weren't covered well enough yet the list contained some of the biggest and most well covered terrorist attacks of recent times. Every day it's an authoritarian regime trying to put its roots down and it's a pretty disturbing thing to watch. He wants America to believe him over the media which makes one wonder what kind of craziness he is trying to set us up for down the road. Spicer says they'll keep calling the media "fake news" until the media stops "attacking" the so called prez. It seems as though they sprinkle just enough craziness out there each day so that the media will keep questioning/fact checking ("attacking") these statements so that the admin can say that they are under constant attack when in reality it's just the media questioning this admin's many bizarre statements and questionable actions. This effort by the admin to discredit the "dishonest media" is a big deal and not something to be ignored.
