After reviewing the table, tell me again how BO destroyed coal industry employment. The economic viability of coal depends on the specific mining/market situation and it's not so good in WV as I've already explained to you.

Nice try. A/P reports 32 coal fired plants were closed by EPA regs with an additional 36 that will possibly close.

As usual your understanding of things is way off. I live in a coal county, spend a lot more time in those counties than you do and work daily to put miners back to work so get over yourself.

Well, I've spent a great deal of time in coal country. You posted:

The world changes, things don't always stay the same. Sometimes you have to move to find work...I've had to move my whole life to stay employed. People can do that. Adapt and survive, increase or change your skills or deal with the consequences.

Tell some of the folks you claim to be helping that you totally support Obama's EPA rule that shuttered coal fired plants (remember Obama promised to destroy the industry). Tell them Obama's EPA rules were good for them. They can adapt. $100K jobs are easy to find. The skills necessary for a high school graduate to get to make that kind of money isn't hard to achieve. Then let them read your post:

"The world changes, things don't always stay the same. Sometimes you have to move to find work...I've had to move my whole life to stay employed. People can do that. Adapt and survive, increase or change your skills or deal with the consequences."

You are one very, very understanding, sympathetic guy.

Just because I offer self help advice doesn't mean I don't feel bad for the folks. I guess you're more of an SSI guy and that's fine but I think that they can do better.

He said he was going to "put them out of business" and not let them mine any more coal.

He kept THAT promise at least.

Well what do you think he meant by telling coal miners that?

He doesn't want to know. Obama is blameless. Obama did not have a war on coal despite the evidence I presented by the very liberal A/P. The EPA regs shuttered coal plants. That is indisputable and something Obama promised to do. Remember when he said he would bankrupt coal operators? Well, that is one promise he kept.

And these loons defend it despite the horrific damage done to our state and our people to achieve a .001% improvement in global warming.

And Hillary was worse. She committed to essentially eliminate fracking. It's like the Dems have declared war on WV.

Indisputable? lol Actually energy companies that own coal fired plants elected to decommission them and it's your opinion that EPA air regs (that never went into effect) were a primary driver in those decisions but many including myself contend that it was market forces and the age of the plants that were foremost in those closure decisions. I'm not sure why you keep bringing Hillary into your incoherent ramblings seeing as she's not playing a role in anything now.

Your daily display of ignorance is shameful considering your profession.

Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach.
Thanks for the weak attempt at an insult and for having nothing to say. If you're going to try to insult my profession maybe you should know what it is. What would be the purpose of trying to insult teachers who despite their best efforts couldn't get through to you? Stick to thread topics and you'll fare better.

You clearly did not read the AP article. And you must admit the AP is certainly not conservative. It's stated specifically that 32 plants would be shuttered due to EPA regulations. 38 additional could be shuttered. Personally, I don't believe you have an understanding of the economics of power generation how capital expenditure budgets to developed by utilities.

I posted a report from the Associated Press yesterday that indicated that as many as 70 plants would be decommissioned due to EPA regulations. He completely ignores that report.

Obama Kept His Promise, 83,000 Coal Jobs Lost And 400 Mines Shuttered
09/05/2016
http://dailycaller.com/2016/09/05/o...83000-coal-jobs-lost-and-400-mines-shuttered/

This Labor Day, America has 83,000 fewer coal jobs and 400 coal mines than it did when Barack Obama was elected in 2008, showing that the president has followed through on his pledge to “bankrupt” the coal industry.

A 2015 study found the coal industrylost 50,000 jobsfrom 2008 to 2012 during Obama’s first term. During Obama’s second term, the industry employment in coal mining has fallen by another 33,300 jobs, 10,900 of which occurred in the last year alone, according to federal data. Currently, coal mining employs 69,460 Americans, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Much of the blame for the job losses is targeted at federal regulations aimed at preventing global warming, which caused coal power plants to go bankrupt, resulting in a sharp decline in the price of coal.

“So if somebody wants to build a coal-powered plant, they can; it’s just that it will bankrupt them, because they’re going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted,” Obama said during a 2008 interview with the San Francisco Chronicle’s editorial board. Democratic Presidential nominee Hillary Clintonalso pledgedthat “We’re going to put a lot of coal miners and coal companies out of business.”

Employment has fallen so drastically because coal production has fallen by 15 percent since 2008 as companies have been forced by environmental regulation to shut down 400 mines due to decreasing demand. Companies opened 103 new mines in the U.S. in 2013 while 271 coal mines were idled or shut down, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and cheap natural gas have devastating coal companies as well, even forcing Peabody Energy, the world’s largest coal company,to declare bankruptcy earlier this month. Other American coal companies have faced financial problems too. Arch Coal filed for bankruptcy as well in January and coal companies like Alliance Coal announced mass layoffs.

As a result, many ex-coal miners are unemployed and Appalachian “coal country” has faced very real economic devastation as a result. The coal-producing areas of eastern Kentucky have an unemployment rate of 8 percent unemployment rates and parts of West Virginia have double-digit unemployment.

Even Obama has recognized the economic devastation, and stated that opposition to his policies by coal miners and people in Appalachia is “perfectly legitimate,” during a December interview with National Public Radio. However, the situation for coal miners would likely get worse if Obama’s Clean Power Plan is fully implemented. The EIA predicts the planwould more than double the number of coal plants shutting down over the next five years. The shutdowns have a cascading effect, causing coal production to collapse by more than 30 percent over the next decade.

The Obama administration responded by offering a mere $14.5 million in federal funding for programs to retrain out-of-work coal miners, after imposing regulations that greatly hampered the American coal industry

Please quit posting facts. You will only confuse and anger the liberals. Obama did absolutely nothing to hurt the coal industry. The EPA is a benevolent organization toward coal. And Obama did not mean it when he said he would bankrupt the coal industry.

My question to them is knowing history's track record on Socialist economies and their almost universal failure, why do they still argue for its insertion into the American free enterprise Capitalist economy?

No. Most just don't understand money in general. With the exception of RPJ and Bru, the rest of them are just zoo animals feeding at the trough of Govt. Bru is just a fvcking weirdo, and too lacking in self awareness to understand what an *** he comes across as to the entirety of the internet world. Maybe he is good people in real life, but he's battling some interpersonal relationship type stuff. Typical numbers nerd lacking in da social skills.

RPJ is the classic limousine liberal. Dude lives in the whitey leave it to Beaver land and the only minorities around him are the ones who work at the club he belongs to. He's flush with cash, reads the liberal rags, and feels a little guilty but not enough to give more than some message board time to working it so he has a clean conscience. Mostly, he thinks he's intellectually superior to the hill jack crowd which he thinks most of us are. He came from a ******** coal mining town, left and now looks down on his roots and believes he's better than the rest of them. He likes to rile up the rubes for a little sport. When it comes to money, no clue, his business manager and accountants handle all that. He golfs and does eye surgery. He's Dr Beeper from Caddyshack.

The rest, they just collect their check every two weeks from Uncle Sam.

The scary part, in my opinion is what is happening on college campuses. Those are our future leaders and to many socialism sounds like a good idea. If they're not being exposed to both sides of the story, as I fear they are not, Socialism sounds incredibly inviting.

That is one important fact years of Collegiate mind control hasn't yet erased Pax. Most folks don't eagerly want to see their hard work and effort sh*t on, and they do still fight to hang onto most of whatever they earn or own.

They get a giant dose of reality. It takes them about 6 months before they realize how offbase they were. I've had a couple of conversations with the ones that have survived. It's funny to hear them talk about "Libs and libtards" now. Those that don't adapt, leave within a year.

Funny story, I took the entire HR team down on the production floor a couple of years ago to walk them through a couple of product lines so they could better understand the type of people we were looking for.

One of the girls pointed to a button and said, "why does that say weapon fire", I explained to her that's how we fire the missiles and pointed out the laser fire button and explained the correlation and process. Followed it up with my customary "turning bad people into good compost". She was appalled and proceeded to tell me we didn't make those kinds of weapons because she checked before she started with us. I asked her if she wanted to come to my office and watch some videos and myself and one of the other managers kind of chuckled a little having both been in the suck more than a time or two.

I found out, about a month later, she left the company.

Actually there was no AP report there, it was Governing magazine? paraphrasing an unknown AP report and they didn't link the report. Anyways, you can idle away the hours ranting about how we got to where we are but the bottom line is Trump's action will be held up in the courts for years like the CPP has been since being signed and at best coal's decline will be slowed or stopped but it won't revitalize the industry or bring many jobs back. There are far more renewable energy jobs than coal and that number will just keep increasing. You're living in the past.
