There should be plenty of these signs at the Egg Bowl.

It works on so many levels.
Sure to be a laugh riot, if you will.

But on a positive note, the Obamas' dog might get a fancy new chew toy:

Only 85 million visits to that site in the last 24 hours

Maybe nobody will notice?

Put race and Mississippi in the same sentence and people will notice. I have dealings with people all over the country and it is beyong amazing how much more racist many parts of the country are than us but they fly totally under the media radar.

Definitely. Attention will be 10x when it happens in the South.

Of course, when events happen at a school affectionately called Ole Miss, where the team is called the Rebels, and where the Rebels sometimes wear gray, it's hard for them to tell the "we've moved on" story. I haven't done my research on this recent story, so I fully acknowledge this may be blown way out of proportion, but those guys definitely aren't helping themselves by holding on to those traditions. They are an easy target when things like this happen in the day and age of electronic media.

Of course, it would be a major story if the same thing happened on our campus, but it's much easier to defend your name by disassociating yourself from the guilty parties when your University culture isn't closely connected with Old South terminology. I doubt the media cares that they banned sticks in the 90s...

Probably because they are not both racist and crazy in other parts of the country. To keep this football related, wonder how that scene looks to new potential students and recruits. I mean, who didn't see this coming. I grew up around Ole Miss, and their fan base is a different breed of hate mongers.

The nation may not know the difference between Ole Miss and Mississippi State, but in-state recruits and their families do. The more they act out what comes natural to them, the more explaining Freeze will have to dream up.

So true! In California people don't believe you're from Mississippi if you have a full set of teeth, or don't talk like you're drunk. They think you're kidding, but generally have a jovial attitude about it. But I've had experiences with people from NYC/NJ that were different. Some (not all) of those folks automatically think you're an uneducated bigot and get this subtle condescending demeanor if you say Mississippi..mostly the women. They don't think there is any civility among blacks and whites down here, and that were in a constant state of conflict and unrest. It's sad.

The image of Mississippi and the reality of Mississippi are quite different, in truth. But Hollywood and the media are mostly to blame. They have extended the historical negativity into the present day. The media has proliferated this exaggerated perception of racism in the minds of millions, everywhere.
