Question for the board - Does Ole Miss place too much emphasis on football?
Huge football budget, streets named after dead players, 18 mph speed limit, obsession in one-uping State at every opportunity, strange antics by the athletic director, etc.
It just seems that the main focal point for the university, and the predominant fixation is to win, win, win at football.

Well, with our football team's success this year, and with Alabama's success the past few years, both have had increases in in state and out of state applications, so it seems winning in football correlates with growing the university population. I'm not sure their budget or street names means Ole Miss cares any less about academics than we do.

They do have academic billboards too. The two most impressive words on a resume - Ole Miss.

I understand the academic side - more students = more money and endowments. But football is different. I see it as obsessive/compulsive behavior and irrational at times.

If you are trying to say that being obsessed with football is a bad thing, then I think you came to the wrong place to make that point.

Hopefully our academic side is preparing for an influx of out of state applications. Football success translates (hilariously) into academic success in the minds of some out of state fools. Especially those from areas where their in state schools are difficult to enter. When parents in Illinois, Missouri, Texas, Georgia, etc get a look at tuition costs (even out of state rates), the mississippi states of the world start looking like a bargain. And they tell themselves that the academics must be good since the football team is good. Can be a good problem to have on our end if handled correctly.

No game. You know, irrational. Like my dictionary says- incapable of logical thought, unreasonable, unsound, illogical, baseless, foolish.

What is the definition of logical thought? What would it** want to dictate to OM?
Why?

I have read his posts several times and can't even understand what he is trying to say. Good luck with this.

Listen Jung, If I had wanted to carry on a dialog with a Rebel, I would have gone to Nafoom. The original question was for MSU fans.

Hmmmm...I think the better question is what FBS/Division I/whatever-it's-called-now school other than UAB doesn't put too much emphasis on football??? And, yeah, I'm all-in like the rest of you.

This is kinda like going on a porn message board and asking whether Tori Black places too much emphasis on banging dudes on camera.

They're no worse than we are, or any other SEC school. You've gotta be that way to be competitive, or ever hope to be.

That said, all the schools probably place too much emphasis on FB. But it's fun for the alumni, other fans, and students.

Should have said hardcore, not harsher. Work within the framework of what you're given.

OOS applications up a bit over 20%, I believe. Which we're going to need if we are going to make Keenum's long-stated 22k by 2015 goal...

It translates into advertising, *******, which tranlates into research by the applicant.

Some people are so gd ignorant ,their credit for anything past kindergarten should be revoked.
