I like Tubberville as a head coach, but another year of grind it out, ball control offense (see Croom, Sherrill, Felker, et al) makes me cringe. The lure of a Texas Tech or Tulsa type offense is too hard for me to withstand, even though it will probably blow up in our face.

under people like Sparky and Woody are now clamoring to get Tubberville who has a proven track record of hiring OCs from the same mold.

...after the 2007 Iron Bowl. Bama folded like a cheap tent the last half of 2007, and Saban had been struggling with the Dolphins before that. He looked tired to me. I guess they should've fired him. They even lost to Louisiana Monroe. Definitely tired.

</The looking tired argument is ridiculous>

No, one season doesn't make a break a coach. I posted this in the why I don't want Tuberville, and I wanted to make my point again.

I think some of you are blinded by the success that Tubs had 00-06, if you look at his body of work, his program has been on the decline the last two years. Look at his losses to USF and us last year, now this year he goes 5-7. Tuberville was, and repeat was one of the top coaches in the SEC for about a 6 year period, but as it goes with most coaches, burn out has set in.
Folks, everyone on hear was complaining about Croom and his offense, and how bad of a coach Jackie finished as. Well let me ask you a question, do want this again? Becasue if we hire Tuberville we are getting no better as far as offense and the desire to win. I just cannot understand how these folks wanting Tubs cannot see this. We need energy, fire and a passion for all things MSU, in other words we dont need Tubs.

I've thought Tubberville was a good coach for years. However, this past season, the fact I think he looks tired, and his track record with OCs should give us pause. I would rather we hired a younger more offensive minded person, but Tubbs wouldn't be a bad hire. I simply do not want to elevate him to the top of the list and hire him tomorrow like some on here apparently want to. Some have said we would be crazy to hire Tubbs. I think we would be crazy to simply hire him without trying to get some others first. If things fell through, we could do much worse than Tubberville. I'd rather things fell through before we hired him. Regardless, again, these things should give us pause.</p>

...we get it. Auburn was as good as anybody in the nation at the end of the season last year. They beat Florida and nearly beat LSU, both on the road. They had an extremely young OL at the beginning of the season and had quarterback issues. To their credit, they recovered and had a great year after early hiccups. Yeah, it sounds like a program on the decline to me.

I'm not saying Auburn should fire him. In fact, I think they should keep him. I'm saying we should have some concern about hiring him. My goodness, are you related to Tubberville or something? Have I offended you that much by simply suggesting that he shouldn't simply automatically vault to the top of the list if he becomes available?</p>

I'm glad that the majority of posters on this board have stated they would rather try to get a younger, less experienced but more offensively minded coach. Hopefully Byrne feels the same way.

This is what I see you guys as saying, so correct me if I'm wrong: if Tubbs becomes available we should knock him up to the top of the list and hire him ASAP. Again, if I'm wrong correct me on that. I simply disagree with this view. I think he should get consideration, but I'd rather at least try to interview someone else before handing Tubberville the wheel.

...using the "so and so looked tired" argument when deciding whether or not to hire/fire/evaluate someone is absolutely ridiculous.

...Petersen and Kelly and before every other realistic name I've heard. He is the closest thing to a sure bet out there after those two.

...is ridiculous. And saying he is burned out because he had one bad season is equally ridiculous. Nutt sure was done when he was coming off two bad years in 2005. Saban was burned out last year, right?

I'm not saying he is burned out, I'm saying he looks burned out. Thus, my argument is that should give us pause. I'm not saying we shouldn't hire him, I'm not saying we shouldn't interview him or show interest, I'm saying we shouldn't simply name him next head coach tomorrow. For the last time, read and comprehend.

...so he "looks" burned out to you. I am saying that someone's appearance should not be a factor, especially someone's opinion of an appearance. That should not be a criteria in whether or not you hire a coach.

I don't think he is burned out. I would take him over just about any other candidate. Wait...........pause...............yep.

he practically had no offense this year because of Franklin. Personally, I think he made a mistake in firing Al Borges, and while their offense may have been in decline, I don't think there's any doubt that Borges got the most out of what he had while he was there. He was also very good at developing a QB and getting the most out of them. If they had an OC, I think they would have won their usual 8 games or so. So, I'm not really alarmed by this season if we were to hire Tuberville. In fact, I'm impressed that he at least addressed the problem and took steps to correct the problem- something that Croom failed to do with our offense. I think he may have looked "tired" because he has a team that basically has no offense, had to install a makeshift offense in the middle of the season, and basically was a lame duck team.

I guarantee you that if Tuberville returns- and I think Auburn would be foolish to get rid of him- that they will be better and he will find an OC that will work and do well for them.

b/c of Tuberville.

But most of all, they just lacked talent at the skill positions.

up and coming, offensive minded coach, and now they are screaming for another fired coach in his later years to come coach Miss State. I just don't get it!!!
