From Tupelo & my son played with some on your team. Just curious how they're doing? As a Ole Miss fan, I'll always pull for these kids. They make a play, I'll be celebrating even against Ole Miss. My allegiance to Universities & Pro Teams are pretty much dead right now anyway.

Jett Johnson - Coached him from the time he was 7.

Hayes Hammond - Walk-on long snapper. best in the state without a doubt.

Tripp Wilson - Walk -on WR. One of the toughest athletic kids we had on the team.

Don't know about those kids but your posts a few months back about youth football pushed me over the edge to let my kids play, and it's been the best decision I could have made, so far in this infant season.

Tupelo Football Decline

Off the subject but was wondering what happened to Tupelo football. Being a West Point fan all my life, I remember some great games between WP and Tupelo but in the last decade or two Tupelo has struggled up and down their schedule. That being said, Tupelo still turns out some very good players.

Man that's awesome... He'll learn so much more than football. Also if he ever wants school ball, he'll be way ahead of the others.

Not going to make excuses.... West Point has an awesome program. They've won state, what 4 out of 5 years? Tupelo has so many kids, that just don't care about playing ball. If some of the kids walking the hallways would play, we'd be tuff. This season we have all new skilled players on offense, except the QB. Along with a complete new staff. Defense we're young & moved some guys around that may not be playing their ideal positions, but had to due to losing seniors. Tupelo had at least 20 out for contact tracing before the first game, 10 of those were starters. These players didn't get issued pads til Wednesday before the first game. So they had live contact 1 practice before the game. Thursday's is just a walk through. Was just looking at stats... first 2 games, we haven't scored a TD in the 1st, 2nd or 4th quarters. Our only points in these quarters was in the 2nd, a FG. Offense has 2 lost fumbles & 4 Ints. We only had 3 yards rushing against WP. Not going to win many games against 2 top 5 teams with these stats. The Defense has kept us in the games. Positive is our offense showed flashes of life against WP. We actually had a great 3rd quarter.

Plus to be honest... We're soft. Don't have that killer instinct & swagger some programs have. Maybe we'll get it back soon.

From what I understand, Jett is almost cracking the 2 deep. Not quite there yet. No clue on Hayes. Tripp is making a name for himself. I think he'll have a scholarship by the time he's done at MSU.

Seem to be up & down every 5 years or so. They had 2 undefeated regular seasons in... maybe 16 & 17? Didn't lose a game until the playoffs. They were state runner up 4 or 5 years before that, and then the Bumphis class was back 07-08 timeframe (that's about when I moved to Tupelo, so didn't keep up with them before that)

To the OP - Jett was one of the ones suspended for most of last season. Don't think he ever played.

Hayes & Trip are true freshmen, correct? Doubt we'll hear anything on them. Just looking at roster, our LS from last year returns as a senior and we have one other true freshman listed. Wouldn't expect him to play this year. And I'd say check back next year to see if Trip can work into the rotation at WR.

Correct.... They're up & down. Trent Hammond is an awesome coach, now at New Albany coaching Defense. He just couldn't get to the Championship Game. Came so close, so many times. We now have Ty Hardin from Houston MS. He actually played at MSU. He's a young fiery coach, with ton's of high energy. I think he'll be a good one, with time. First year & covid as made it hell. He was Chris Jones's coach when he played high school ball. Jett plays LB, a super athlete, strong & smart. He's only draw back would be speed. He's defiantly not slow, just the SEC is so damn fast. Tripp & Hayes are both Freshman. I have no doubt if they stay healthy they'll earn a scholarship.

Thanks for the response. I had no idea Tupelo had that many kids out and had so little preseason practice. That is an incredibly tough break.

Having kids sit out due to lack of interest has to be frustrating with a school the size of Tupelo. I hope you guys get on track soon.
