Turf Pitchers Mound?

Should be a law against this...along with HP and around the bases!! Blasphemy I tell you blasphemy.
you have to hope that’s some type of temporary protective deal. The seams look terrible, the greens are different, the pitchers would have to go in turf shoes or be at risk of turning ankles and the landing areas would be worn out with a swiftness.
I have only seen turf on temporary/portable mounds....and they get destroyed by little leaguers...I can only imagine SEC dudes.
I hope you're right. Vanderbilt's mound is turf. We'll find out tomorrow. They scrimmage at 3:15.

Would it have to do with the new pitching coach? Don't see why else a brand new park would be changed unless it was his preference. I'm sure it's less maintenance, but you'd have to believe that was considered when the park was originally built.

Maintenance? How much can it take to take care of HP & PM? Players like their own little spot on the mound and in the batters box. I know I'm VERY old school with this, but l HATE this, just look at the problems guys have trying to not slide past the bags when stealing and trying stretch bases on a hit...this just sucks!!!
There is maintenance to taking care of those areas...my point was that maintenance may be sold as the reason they changed it, but surely maintenance would’ve been considered when they created the park to begin with.
Hitting isn’t bad from the stuff, even in spikes...but I wonder how the pitchers will like it.
I imagine it is just something that takes a bit of getting used to. Might even be good in some ways because you don't have to worry about falling into another person's 'hole.' There is more consistency.
Aesthetically and for the pureness aspect, I don't like it, but I can see it as somewhat practical.
Don't see how pitchers, hitters or base runners can like it for the reasons l gave...l dont have problems with the grass just leave the dirt alone!!!!
If you think of it, there are probably a whole lot of instances where the kids playing today do not play on any dirt, but instead are pitching and hitting off of flat, turf surfaces. There are a ton of indoor pitching and hitting facilities where they practice. There are now actual indoor facilities where teams play. Turf is becoming more prominent and it wouldn't surprise me to see an influx of it on baseball stadiums in high schools. Even in college, they go into the hitting/pitching complex and they likely aren't pitching or hitting off of dirt a whole lot. So, they are probably pretty used to the flatter surfaces.
He's projected to be starting at 1st for the Mariners this season. Pretty exciting.

I’m a natural surface guy. But the weather from February-May in KY is so unpredictable that it makes sense to have an all turf surface. The one thing about sports that is aggravating is the modernization of it. If we had the same attitude with modern technology, we’d still have rotary phones and 8 track players.
Don't agree with correlation...turf does nothing to advance the sport of baseball especially HP, pitchers mound and area around the bases. Makes it worse in my opinion. Like I said , l have nothing against the grass in the infield, outfield and warning tract. Leave the pitchers mound, batters box and bases areas alone. There should be no problems with maintenance for those three areas. Bet if players were to get a vote they would agree.
A lot of youth tournaments use turf mounds. So, those guys are used to it when they get to college. A muddy mound and/or infield usually gets the delays and PPD’s. Like I said before, I’m a natural surface guy. But it’s 2020, things have changed.
Still young at heart . BB was/is about about having a dirty uniform, digging the box to make it suit you desires and pitchers working the dirt on the rubber to suit them . Should be a time honored history.
