Play almost bump and run on their WR and basically play the run and any short passes. Dare them to throw deep.On O, run clock. When the QB comes to the line, wait until 3 seconds on play clock to snap it. Try to hold the ball, basically.I'm not saying State can do this, or should, but i fI'm LSU, I do this every game, not jsut LSU.I realize this is a simplisitc view, but I'm no coach or anything like that, so this is a fans view theory.

Ha...I'm sure they know all this already , if it makes sense.

It would be embarassing to try and tell Mullen how to win a game. Ha. Like I said, simply a fan view.

This is basically the strategy that Ole Miss used. It worked pretty well. Bama was only able to really put one drive together whenever they started on their end of the field.

you definately have to try to win both...

turnover and TOP categories... 3 & outs and TOs will kill ya against this team...

another thing, try to get ahead early and take Bama out of the Ground and Pound...

we want the game to be short, boring, and grind other teams into dust and win by 17 (which is comparable to anyone else winning by 35)...

I agree completely... good points.

The real key to winning is to play at home and force 6 turnovers

The home team wins every time when that happens.

The key is somehow being able to score a few tds and get a lead, plus having tremendous depth on the LOS...or at least being able to move the ball offensively and give the defense a breather. We executed your defensive gameplan to near perfection last year against them...until we wore down late in the 3rd/early in the 4th and they got away from us.

I think our failure to convert on our scoring opportunities also contributed to our demise.

actually that game was typical of how Bama wins... MSU never really was a threat in that game to drive and win... conversely, that's what makes Bama vulnerable, their style of play makes them sucseptible to the "big play" (without getting big leads on opponents)... Bama is almost unbeatable "straight up"... imo

I can say that without a doubt Stallings doesn't win a national championship without ref help to beat MSU. OL tackling in the backfield to prevent MSU from winning.

MSU had a good run against Bama in the 90s when Bama was down. Usually, MSU isn't good enough to have a chance to beat Bama.

But face it, Bama is known for going on absurd streaks for consecutive games without a holding call. If you don't think Bama routinely gets disproportionate help from refs, then I've got no respect for your intellect.

Exhibit A: that viral youtube of the Bama-TSUN ref spotting the football for Bama, looking at the 1st down stick, then moving the spot.

There's another good video out there of LSU getting screwed repeatedly by referees in an Alabama games. It included a 5 1/2 yard penalty that led to a first down. Interception not getting called. All sorts of wild *** stuff all game long.

I'm on record as saying that Bama does in fact get the benefit of the officiating. but it cuts both ways... MSU doesn't beat Bama in 96 and effectively "Croom" (pre-croom) Stallings, save the no holding call when Deshea Townsend gets his jersey pulled up over his head on the long play that seals the game for you guys...

we can go around and around in circles... I agree that Bama gets gets the "good" in the officiating usually (like all the best teams and athletes do) but for those to suggest that it is a standard or it's mandated by the conference is silly.

I'd just rather here "well, yall buy better talent than we do..." at least that's honest.

Just once in '99. Phantom clip. But let me ask you this. Over the last 5 years, how many seasons have y'all had with 0 holding penalties?

ah the 99 game... it was similar to the '11 game... msu really never threatened (data available)...

answer to your question: zero

however we did go on an obscenely ridiculous streak w/o a holding penalty... they could call holding on every OL on every play... I agree with you in that aspect... horsecrap.

that looked shady as hell... but let me grab my crimson colored glasses....

1) the final spot was more accurate than the first spot... the official marked the ball short of where it should have been with the 1st of his 3 attempts...
2) it's possible another official (R) told him to move the spot(s).

I will say this, when he looked back at the sideline and then set the ball down, I thought "OMG we could beat these cats by 50 points and all the MSU and Ole Miss fans will still be saying 'see... see!!!!!'....

I've yet to get an answer... How many Wins have the refs cost MSU...? the ~91 game comes to mind with me.... that was the year yall were about to ram it down our throats for the win and our LB (Sullins?) called yalls cadence and yall's stud T jumped... that was shady for sure... not certain if illegal, tho....

The way I remember '99: Pig returned a punt to the Bama 8 yrd line. We probably would've pounded it in the endzone. Instead, the play was called back and Wyatt threw an interception on 1st down. That led to a Bama FG. So that was a 10 pt swing plus a momentum change. We might have still lost, but it would've been a totally different game.

What's your version?

You've got '91 covered. 1994 is the other one that comes to mind. Barker fumbled in the backfield, but the ref called it a forward pass. State had recovered deep in Bama territory and probably would have scored. Instead, Bama punts, the returner fumbles, and the comeback was on...

I got really drunk that night I was so GD mad...

I don't remember that one (94) and I'm too tired to research it, so I'll conditionally stipulate to it....

was the 91 deal ever decided to be "illegal" or just "unethical"?

That was NOT a forward pass that night. Bama got the call. It was wrong but the refs GAVE it to them.

The 94 game counts for reasons stated and Bama continuously and blatantly holding, at time tackling, in the backfield.

The 91 game counts too. It is, or was then, illegal for defensive players to call the snap count.

I think you're right Tusk. The final spot was a pretty good spot. His initial spot was at least a full yard behind where it should have been. The other official marking the ball (there are 2 on most plays, 1 on each side), must have corrected him.
