The biggest US Men's Soccer game in ??? years had fewer TV viewers than a Sunday night regular season matchup between two teams from New York? Or is the point to show that even when it is a huge game, soccer won't outdraw regular season baseball? A more valid comparison in my mind would be ALCS or NLCS games, not just a run of the mill regular season game.
A better comparison would be a Gold Medal women's basketball game at either the Olympics or the World Championships.
I don't even know where you would find MLS regular season soccer on TV, and I doubt it's ratings are very good.

I could be wrong about that, and I know that European league (UEFA maybe?) is really the top profesionally league. Are those games even broadcast in the US on cable networks?
Sports fans know that MLS is a bull **** league compared to Euro soccer therefore they don't watch it. World Cup will be a different story.
MLS? Yeah, because it's like a third tier soccer league. I don't even watch MLS, and I'm a big soccer fan- I watch EPL, and this was the first year I had a channel that carried their games- most of the channels carrying these games are ones you have to buy, though I do think Fox just bought the rights to the Champions League games.

the NBDL is about on par talent wise with the MLS. A league full of guys that can't hack it at the top level, with the occasional prospect that will end up on a bigger stage eventually, although a role player at best.

as long as we have the NFL, NBA and MLB. It just won't. Even if we won the World Cup soccer may become more popular here but instead of people paying attention to MLS they will pay attention to Euro Soccer where the big boys play.
otherwise you are inaccurate. NFL is the best football league in the world. CFL might be second, then Arena with Arena2 (what Tupelo plays in) a distant fourth. MLS isnt even Arena2. With that being said I hate watching soccer but I would cheer on the US in ANYTHING against the best team in the world in that particular sport, I don't care if we are talking dwarf tossing...
Well, I will say, in the ONLY World Cup that I remember the US hosting (women in 1999), the championship final had an attendance of over 90,000.
The Super Bowl that same year had an attendance of over 74,000.
Now, say what you want, but those are two "world championships" supposedly.

Regardless, comparing ratings for the US team in an international championship soccer match against a regular season WNBA game isn't a good comparison. It'd be better if you had a World Championship or Olympic Gold Medal game for the US women's team to use for comparison.

the SB will sellout wherever it is, and the Cup was in the Rose Bowl...and as Colin Cowherd said today- women's soccer rode that all popularity in the US from that win to see the pro women's league go under just a few years later
People may watch some of the big events because it is a novelty, but everyday soccer is decades away from being a popular, marketable sport in the US
