I think the fact that the majority of Nebraska fans had to look up who Mike Riley was on wikipedia last Dec. should tell you all you need to know. Many of us saw this for what it was when the hire was made.

No one wanted to pay attention to the many many red flags with this hire. They just liked him because he smiled a lot.

I kept drawing attention to his 28-year coaching record, but people just kept saying he would do better once at Nebraska. Because the resources afforded to him at Oregon State were so poor.

There were many many posters on this board who cried foul and tried to question this hire. They were subsequently shot down by the people that apparently know a lot about football, but very little about what makes a good coach.

Christ sakes, knock it off, im at a loss of words, like a lot of us are about this season but we are just a bad team and its not like Riley took over for a Bama team, USC team or any team whos been recruiting top 10 for years. I really think even big name coaches would be lossing with this team. We are just bad, simply put, bad.

But ill give you this, i do wish we would of hired a big time, big name coach but we didnt. Unfortunately we are stuck with Riley for severale years, theres no way any respectable D1 college football team fires a coach in there very first year, outside breaking the rules.

Nebraska is bad because of Riley.

If I was the Nebraska AD I would call Bo Pelini and see if he would come and atleast get you guys to a bowl game.

Did my post actually sound like im enjoying this season at all? Im just saying reguardless who we had as a coach, this team is just a bad team and i also said i do wish we would of hired a big name, big time coach. No matter whatn we are stuck with Riley for severale years unless he retires first, thats the only way he bounces out at all in the next 3 to 5 years.

All we can do is set back, be fans and pray he can at least recruit like Callahan could and load us up for the next coach.

I guess I was unaware that it was commonly accepted when last season ended that NU was destined for a 3-4 win season and would be unable to beat Purdue and Illinois (and NW, and so on), regardless of who was coaching.

Oh Lord, i work 3rd shift at a factory and im just tired due to a lack of sleep. Didnt realize i was back in English class again. Thought it was a football site.

huskersalts you're missing the point a little bit here I believe.
Yes this team is bad as you say it is. But coaching is part of the reason this team is so bad. Coaching is a bout A LOT more than simply recruiting. If it was just about recruiting "your guys" then every coach would be awesome and Callahan would have won national titles here by now. You need to be able to coach the players you have and it doesn't look like that is happening.
Other coaches WOULD be doing better with this team.

Yes possibly, but then again they could have lost the exact same games as Riley has. I think one coach that matched our current players would of been Urban Meyer and i really doubt even with a 40 million a year offer, he'd stayed at OSU.

The beauty of it all is that you don't need Urban Meyer, you need a Urban Meyer. Cold hard facts are that we're bargain shopping for coaches though..

Really????? We are losing to the bottom of FBS. We are not battling top 40 teams here.

Nebraska has to win 2 of its last 3 games to equal 5-7. Two of those teams are Michigan State and Iowa. And I honestly do not think this team can beat Maryland, either.

3-9.
