starting this season, if a player is injured and needs to shoot free throws, the opposing coach gets to choose the shooter from the other four on the court. Somewhere, Richard Williams just threw his newspaper.

Anthony just left the Jackson State staff and has been named head coach of Div III team somewhere (in TX???).

Wish I knew more, but they made the announcement while I was out of town.

to the one of Jack Cristil's most irate calls. Boone gets fouled and can't shoot, they get Joezon Darby to shoot the FT's and as soon as the 2nd FT goes through, Boone pops us to which Cristil yelled into the microphone...

A MIRACULOUS RECOVERY BY BOONE!!!

I remember listening to that game and being pissed at that ********. As a kid, I didn't understand how that whole incident wasn't cheating. And now that I'm older and understand it was technically legal, it was still cheating, as far as I'm concerned. Mississippi has always been an institution of cheating ********, no matter how much they try to convince everyone the opposite is true.

because it'll discourage teams from faking or exaggerating an injury to get a better free throw shooter in the game. However, I do think that it could be a little unfair when a team has its best free throw shooter get hurt. I'm pretty sure that when Chris Warren tore his ACL this year, he got fouled on the play. He's one of our best free throw shooters. He'd end up getting replaced by one of our worst despite the fact that his injury was real.

Also, another related question, does the team that has to substitute get a chance to sub that guy back out immediately after the free throws? If not, that would be unfair in my eyes. I could see a team choosing to pick some walk on off the end of the bench just to force the team to play a few trips with the walk on on the floor, or choose a point guard to replace a big man to gain an advantage briefly. I'd hope they have something in place to allow the team to replace the shooter after the free throws.

it was 98-99, i think, and we had a one point lead late in a conference game. oral roberts grabbed an offensive rebound and was immediately fouled hard. as he sat up, he looked over to stans. stans had his arms crossed, with one hand on his chin. everyone was looking at the ref and on the court, but i, for some reason, glanced at stans. i'll never forget this image - stans looked at roberts, and without moving much, took his hand from his chin and pointed at the floor. roberts immediately grabbed his ankle and then limped to the sideline. i want to say it was todd myles who took the two free throws. we made both, and win by 3. there were only a few seconds left at the time.

Couldn't remember whether or not there was a foul, but I definitely think the rule should help keep a little bit more integrity in the game, though it probably only will go into effect only a handful of times a year for any given team.
