One reason the Ole Miss ACT score is higher is they offer more Scholarship Money for someone with a decent ACT score than MSU does... My daughter had a 4.0 an a 27 ACT... Ole Miss offered almost twice as much Scholarship $$$ than MSU did... she goes to MSU and loves it....

The offices of institutional research at both schools will have this data. However, just the average of the whole incoming class does not tell the whole story. UM has a higher white % and a higher out-of-state % of incoming freshman, both of which will contribute to a higher average ACT score. If I had the time today and could find what I need, I'd love to do a comparison of incoming-freshman ACT scores by in-state vs. out-of-state and by racial/ethnic group.

Looking at your third link, it looks like out of state (which I assume they mean by non-resident) is only 23.5 so they don't really have a positive impact (at MSU). One would think they would though.

Non-resident is "Non-Resident Alien" - basically all students not of a US origin are lumped into this category, regardless of their "real" racial/ethnic group (i.e. they can be white, black, hispanic, etc. - all lumped together). Out-of-state average ACT scores are 25.3. In-state scores are 23.87. From: http://www.ir.msstate.edu/enroll_profile16.pdf. I haven't found the corresponding data at TSUN yet.

TSUN started using a "reconstituted" ACT score. Instead of using a he student's best overall ACT score from one test, they look at all tests the student has taken and then select the highest score for each section (English, Math, Science, Writing) and then re-average their score. In other words, they also cheat at reporting academic statistics.

If you "reconstitute" MSU's Fall 2016 Freshman Class, the average ACT is 25.4 vs. their 25.2. We still win!
