Keyword is "our" coaches.

I'm not speculating, but there has been writing on the wall with Jones for several weeks. We have got to win this battle...

Our coaches didnt expect him to go to Oxford last nite either - even after being told by someone that he was

All we can do is wait this battle out

I thought someone, maybe engie? Said Jones told our coaches 2 weeks ago that he was visiting the plantation.

So engie is lying when he said our coaches knew 2 weeks ago this was going to happen?

From what I understand, Jones and family basically had to throw a few curve balls to coaches and recruiting site reporters to keep the heat off leading up to this visit.

The family wanted to visit and there was pressure from your staff, his school, and in general, not to visit.

The kid did what he had to do to take the visit.

It's probably time to come to grips with the fact that Engie has no more info than you other posters here.

He just repeats what he picks up from multiple recruiting subscriptions with his spin.

According to Rosebowl jones and his mom told ole miss aburn and state coaches that were all at his house yesterday that he was committed to state. Looks like a smokescreen.

I think it would be in Jones best interest to come to MSU

simply because he would see the field much quicker and get more PT early. Ole Miss has CJ, signed Ward last year and Nkemdiche will want to start as a freshmen. I dont see where he would think we could fit in the DE rotation? I thought Hooks best interest was to sign with OM because of lack of depth OM has at DT compared to MSU , just like I thought Bo Wallace made the right choice signing with OM last year bacuse he could start right away where he would probably be 3rd string at QB at MSU . Alot of time its seeing who is in front of you and the opportunity to see the field early . Thats why I have a hard time believing Jones would even consider Ole MIss? Why? So he could battle Nkemdiche for a starting spot? Doesnt make sense

DCD, not following

CJ told ole miss, auburn and MSU that he was committed to MSU but at last minute his dad gets him to go to ole miss? Is this what you are saying?

I understand what you are saying, but we rotate DE's. We do the same with WR's which is why we can sign several good WRs in addition to having Moncrief and others.

Johnson only has two more seasons. Ward has three. Johnson may play some LB eventually.

Let's be honest, Chris Jones and Nkemdiche will play almost immediately at any school.

"From what you understand"

Frankly, I'm not sure you are contributing much by regurgitating the spin from the Ole Miss boards over here. We're fully aware that the fans of whatever school a player ultimately signs with have the ability to rationalize just about anything remotely negative about that player.

He's saying that is the spin that Rosebowl is putting out for being wrong. Engie has simply repeated other crap that Steve has put out as fact.

His mom got home and she asked Chris where he wanted to go to school and he said MSU.

With that, his mother explained to everyone that the family appreciated their interest, but that he would be signing with Mississippi State and the other coaches left.

I think if you'll read this thread and pay attention to long time SPS posters in this thread, you'll see that the Jones family told your coaches that they weren't coming to OM as late as yesterday afternoon before his basketball game. He promptly left the game in Carthage and drove to Oxford.

What is there not to understand here?

There were OM fans in the so called know, who explained that this would happen even before it did. I'm now inclined to believe that they had an idea. Call it rationalizing if you'd like. There is certainly plenty of that here lately.

Writing on the wall? Are you serious?

He's on an official visit. They're supposed to last the weekend. It's GREAT news if he leaves it early, and nothing notable if he stays the whole time. It's only if he starts talking about flipping that we have to be worried.

You are saying that the Joneses lied to MSU's coaches, not me. Such behavior, if true, would not reflect very well on their behavior. So you've attempted to justify it through rationalizing that it was someone else's fault that they had to do that. As I suggested, fans of a school will rationalize the bad behavior of their recruits if it results in something favorable for their school.

The most common postings that I've read on MSU boards regarding Jones and his visit to Ole Miss is that he told MSU's coaches a couple of weeks ago that he might be going and that he called them last night and told them that he was going, which is where I got my information. I have no inside knowledge whatsoever. If its reported that he actually did tell MSU coaches he wasn't going, and then went and got in the car to go to Ole Miss, then I don't think he acted appropriately, even if he does ultimately sign with MSU.

I would guess Jones just views that as an eye for an eye for how his HS coaches and the MSU coaches have treated his recruitment.

So engie is lying when he said our coaches knew 2 weeks ago this was going to happen?

There's a difference between telling someone THAT you intend to visit -- and telling them WHEN you intend to visit. But you are obviously on a mission to try to discredit the info... so have at it**

He told MSU's staff several weeks ago that he intended to visit Oxford. Period. How do you think I, Coach66, and others have mentioned that we knew this was probably coming? Of course everyone hoped it wouldn't happen, so the meltdown across every MSU board would never commence...

You sure do seem invested in ruffling feathers -- mine primarily -- for someone who allegedly doesn't follow recruiting and hates it? Everything I've said is obviously pretty common knowledge... it's coming from every angle...

Someone get rid of this 17er.

I can handle the counter opinion, but I'm getting pretty 17n sick of the whole "nanny, nanny, boo, boo" **** that he's bringing today. On your board - okay. Over here, not so much...

Where did I say I don't follow recruiting? I follow it pretty closely. I never claim to have inside knowledge when I don't, that's the difference.

I do hate it though, because of days like today.

here's a monkey wrench I wasn't expecting

one of my top doctors in miss is a member of my duck camp and he is the quiet bear booster....teaches sunday school, never said a curse word, never had a drink, and doesnt gloat about ole miss.....his father in law, a NE Ms physician, is quite the booster....(save his accolades, no need)....

he knew my 4 wheeler had "blown up" last weekend at the duck camp.....well to make a short story, and he doesnt talk much about recruiting,.....i told him how cool did he think the top 2 high school recruits in the country were going to end up at Miss schools?....

he replies? who is MSU getting? i said CJ!.....he said, i hear he is having a good time in oxford at this very moment.....(this is before i knew he was in oxford)....i said "i don't think so" ....

well, he said, "you cannot predict these 18 year old kids, but I will make a bet with you, I will buy you a brand new Honda 4 wheeler if I am wrong, but CJ will sign with ole miss on signing day"......this was in front of about 8 camp members.....docs, lawyers and farmers (go figure).....

now, i believe what paul is saying on 247 about rumors....but knowing this doctor and his seriousness got me thinking.....and now I come home and read all this....

when we were one on one as he was leaving, i asked him, what makes you so sure CJ is going to sign with UM?......"his dad"

i hope he is wrong....but i have read all the rumors, heard all the rumors....but i know his father in law and he runs with the AD and chancellor up there.....now, i worry....

I think Jones still signs with MSU. I will say though, that Mullen has pissed the Jones off with some of his actions involving CJ's recruitment. My source on that is gold, and has no connection to Ole Miss.

Wait a minute, what? 2 schools don't visit the same kid simultaneously let alone 3 and have it end in a peaceful pow-wow on a the front porch.
