In theory yes...but I believe in conference transfers have to sit out 2 yrs instead of the normal 1 (unless given an exception by the conf).

Two of Michigan State's talented defensive linemen have left the football program, according to a school release issued late Monday night citing coach Mark Dantonio.

The release, in its entirety, states:

"Michigan State sophomore defensive lineman Craig Evans and sophomore defensive end Montez Sweat have left the football team for personal reasons effective immediately, according to an announcement made Monday, April 18 by head coach Mark Dantonio."

Both players had dealt with internal disciplinary issues during their two seasons with the Spartans, and while neither was projected to start, both have shown great ability at times.

Evans was suspended during spring drills in 2015. Sweat was indefinitely suspended after the second game of last season up until the start of spring football drills.

Dantonio did not disclose the reasons for either players' past suspensions. But he said Sweat was "in limbo" as recently as last week, an indication the talented defensive end from Stone Mountain, Georgia, was running out of chances.

In a video leaked earlier this spring, the 6-foot-6, 230-pound Sweat was seen running down tailback L.J. Scott from behind during scrimmage action.

The 6-2, 307-pound Evans, from Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, was dominant at times last season, particularly in goal-line situations and in Michigan State's 17-14 win at Ohio State.

The Spartans held the Buckeyes to just five first downs and 132 yards with Evans clogging the middle, leaving Ohio State tailback Ezekiel Elliott frustrated and second-guessing his coaches after his 12-carry, 33-yard effort.

Michigan State lost three defensive line starters off last season's 12-2 Big Ten championship team, including three-time first-team All-Big Ten selection Shilique Calhoun.

The Spartans will hold their Green-White game player draft Tuesday with the seniors choosing up sides for Saturday's 3 p.m. game at Spartan Stadium.

I would think that would somewhat hurt their depth losing 5 players total, but I am not sure if the 3 starters from last year would be eligible this year anyways...as ours would have been.

Not sure what MSU's DL situation is, but losing 5 d-linemen in one year has to be worse than our situation right?

Our starting 4 should be good, but unless a few rs frosh step up we will have depth issues.

Having our DT, Knox, be granted a 6th year for medical reasons would be huge.

We already moved over a former 4 star linemen who played both ways in HS but started at an OG at MSU to DT full time.

Good luck on these changes and shifts of kids / players around. These types of personnel moves seem to be all that much more common these days. Good fortune on your season (Beat tOSU!)

Dantonio has a knack for finding the right sports for players and getting the most 'talented 22' onto the field. He's earned my blind trust in that regard.
