I know that this has been brought up and rehashed all over the planet here and pretty much everywhere else, but I actually like a two QB system. I'm not even talking about Tyler/Relf- I'm talking about Lee/Jefferson.
In the past, it hasn't worked for people because they would do something like have QB's alternate series or quarters or halves. And in many cases it didn't work because teams had two QB's that were too similar to each other.
I think the ideal thing nowadays is to have a QB that is a drop back passer type and then one that is more of a running dual threat type of QB. And the way to manage that is to play them when the situation dictates it rather than at a set time. It makes the defense have to gameplan for both. Plus, if you play a team that has a weak secondary, you have a QB that can exploit that. Or, if you are facing a team that has trouble stopping the run, you've got a guy that can do that as well. I think it could also take some pressure off of the QB's because they both know that they are going to play and that they can share the spotlight and pressure.
Florida did this with Leak and Tebow- and it worked out great. LSU is doing it with Jefferson and Lee, and they are probably going to go undefeated. And we are doing this with Relf and Tyler- and our offense has picked up, granted against lesser competition, but it has improved overall nonetheless. I wouldn't be surprised to see Alabama start playing Sims some along with McCarron in the near future.
