Two questions about the Auburn game

1. How were their fans this year before and after the game? Curios if many tried to tailgate in the junction area with GameDay.

2. Saw on the wife's BookFace that someone was saying the Auburn band played Hail State after the game. Did they really do that? I saw it in the internet and although I usually believe everything I read, that seemed a bit odd.

1. Had no issues with any AU fans. Saw a few orange and blue cowbells. Told them they were cute and they put them away.
2. I assume they did. I've heard the same thing from multiple people sources.

Let me dispel that rumor. The Auburn band DID NOT play Hail State. That's straight from the band director's mouth.

"No. We did not play Hail State. We played War Eagle at the end of the game. Just a drunk fan that can't tell the difference in his own fight song and ours."

For some reason, the MSU band and the Auburn band have always been friendly to one another. In the late 80s, they even shared the field for a combo halftime show @ Auburn. So, it would not surprise me that they would do that.

Had some Aubies set up near us Fri aft and had no problem at all with them, good natured ribbing. Sat a.m. I had 2 loads on carts dragging them to the tent and had an Aubie in his orange pants walk out and take one from me and wheeled it to the tent with me. At the game I had 4 Aubies tailgating w/ our crew w/ no problems.

Didn't have any problems, even with the ones sitting in our section.

There were a couple a few rows behind us that would lose their **** and go crazy if their team did something basic, like complete a pass or gain a single yard. But then I realized I might sound the exact same way when State does those things.

Although this is true that the two bands have a good relationship (one of the msu directors is an auburn grad), it's not customary at all to play an opponents fight song at the end of the game. We've always only played Hail State, win or lose.

It used to be tradition to play the opponents fight song at the beginning of games. We used to do that. Tennessee played our fight song during their pregame in '08, for those that went.

There was one behind us in our section that was the stereotypical, obnoxious fan. He screamed and whined and complained about every single call and every single play where there wasn't a call that went in his favor. About the only thing he had going for him was that he wasn't using profanity. He was the absolute worst. My wife had to grab my arm a couple of times and tell me she was going to slap me if I turned around and engaged him. I wanted to throat strike him.

There was another one sitting next to us, who cheered for his team and was as pleasant as can be.

The Auburn ban always plays the song that we do "Hey... Go State!" to.

If that's what you're referring to. I remember in '08, they played it a few times, and our student section sang along.

Had one obnoxious Aubbie fan and his junior high aged son sitting two rows behind us and two rows in front of the chairbacks in section 3 I believe it was. He was being way over the top. I'm pretty sure he didn't take a breath during the first few minutes of the game yelling it was going to be 3 and out all day, game was going to be over in the 1st quarter (he was almost right), and being generally condescending and rude. After our first score everyone around him was giving him hell. It continued on after each of the first three scores. At 21-0 he was silent and gone by the middle of the 3rd quarter. I turned around to shake his hand and say it's all in good fun when we went up big in the 4th but they said he scooted out middle of 3rd quarter. Kind of felt bad for him having 20 cowbells ringing in his face every time we did something good but 17 him he started it. Really felt bad for his son. I can only imagine what he thought about the experience. Other than that douche nozzle the rest of the Aubbie folks were generally nice and just having a good time.

We had the quintessential ancient Auburn couple next to us. They wheeled him in at the end of our row, and set up a folding chair for her behind us (we're the back row in our section). He had a hearing aid, and quickly turned it down when the cowbells got loud. He then went to sleep at least four different times during the game, and would randomly wake up to exclaim "dagnabbit" when Auburn missed an opportunity. My 3-year old had to be popped to get him to stop trying to undo the brake on the guy's chair. The wife was very gracious when they left at the end of the game, and didn't seem bothered by my random exclamations at calls the refs would miss.
My wife made the comment that she hoped that wasn't the husband's last Auburn game to get to attend.

unfortunately we have our share of obnoxious fans. MOst AU fans report it as being a very positive trip to Starkville except for the beatdown. I know I have enjoyed every trip over there but was glad I did not make this one!

Didn't happen to be the old guy on the right in the blue vest did it?

He's always been excited at Auburn games.

Through the years the AU fans grade out the best. Of course they were winning but this year was just as good. One sat in front of me. Couldn't have been nicer. Now those Georgia fans are a whole nother animal. Worse than TSUN by far.

I only ran across a few obnoxious Auburn fans before the game. We were in "Mississippi Plaza" waiting to enter when a group of drunk AU Fans loudly yelled out that we were about to see a real top 5 team. Nothing bad.. Actually kind of humorous...

/He was right though... We did get to see a real top 5 team
//Mississippi State!

There was a near altercation in the section where I was. Both the State guy and Auburn guy seemed like pretty big jerks. It was on and off the whole game. Security intervened at one point.

Also, I was in the band in the 90's and I vaguely remember practicing another school's fight song. Can't recall the occasion.

i thought they were very respectful for the most part. good travel crowd...at least the ones i saw. a few got a little ballzy saying stuff, but nothing too out of line. this one dude i sat next to was probably one of the most gracious/kind people i have ever met. i realize he is in the lions den, but he handled himself very well. very complementary and humble...which is the complete opposite of how i picture their fanbase. i actually felt sorry for him....but only him. it was sweet getting that win and seeing them stream out of the stadium. they got harassed via cowbell a bit on the way out.

didnt hear the band.

malzahn eats blue waffles....i had to google it.....DONT GOOGLE IT.

I despise Auburn to only a slightly smaller degree than OM, but it has never been due to their fanbase. It is due entirely to their unbelievably crooked football program that seems to always find a way to stay one step ahead of investigations. They've done enough to deserve a death penalty, yet I don't think they've even been on probation since the early 90s.

The few that I interacted with at the tailgate were very nice. Congratulated us on the win and told us to beat Bama.

I had two security officers that stood at my section's portal for the entire game(Sec. 4-5). Initially thought that it was about Stricklin's midweek cowbell rant. I had one yardbird sitting by me that was loudly cheering his team. Wanted to tell him to STFU a few times. He left towards the end of the 4th but forgot one of the cans of Bud Light he brought in.

I think Auburn (like Tennessee) still plays the opponent's fight song in their pregame? I seem to remember that from my Auburn away trips (2005 & 2007). Dr. Aarhus (MSU band director who is an Auburn grad) conducted the AUMB playing the Star Spangled Banner in 2007.
