1. Is Boise State in contention for a BCS bowl
2. If Petersen announced his resignation before the bowl selection process would it hurt Boise`s chances of being selected.

I acknowledge it`s probably a moot point but just wondering.

Why are some people convinced he is still coming? What more does the man have to say. Todd Graham will be the next HC at MSU, I am telling you give it up on Petersen.

and in case you`re interested I posted my official guess as being Graham about 4 days ago. I`m asking a question about the way the BCS works IF Petersen was really considering us.

in my opinion, question one is yes but it's a very very slim chance, and question two is probably not... But that's just my opinion

Utah will go over them for the at large bid that is more than likely open to nonBCS schools. It could happen but it would mean either the loser of the SEC championship or Ohio St didn't get in.

ACC winner
SEC winner
SEC loser
Big 12 winner
Cincinanti
USC
Penn St.
Texas
Utah

Leaves one spot with either Ohio St. or BSU for the final spot. These 2 lucked up that Oregon St. lost to Oregon or USC would have this at large locked up. BSU is 9 where Ohio St. is 10 but I doubt BSU goes over THE Ohio St. Only 2 teams from each conference can get in the BCS or Texas Tech would be in.

Editted to add: USC could lose to UCLA and Oregon St. go to Rose Bowl. That might push USC into this spot.

1. probably less than 5% chance that they are selected for BCS bowl game
2. I would think it could potentially alter the selection committees attitudes toward BSU if there were an announcement beforehand due to the turmoil the program would now be in. Did Urban Meyer accept the UF job before or after Utah was selected into the BCS game?

edit to add:
Meyer was hired on December 4th, 2004, and also stayed on and Coached in the BCS game....hmmm i guess it hurt him in recruiting too

If Boise has a glimmer of a hope I don`t think Petersen would dare do anything to hurt their chances. That being said I`ve thought it would be Graham every since we flew Malzahn in for an interview. I think we have a high degree of interest in the Graham/Malzahn combination. I think we took a shot at Petersen but we were quite a bit apart on the money.

We go from "done deal, he's coming, it is imminent" to "he's definantly not coming, it's over". Understand something: nobody knows anything, ANYTHING. The guy said he isn't coming, but coaches say that crap all the time. People, cool your heels and wait and see what happens. I have never bought into Petersen coming, but I do believe the guy has been interested and has been in negotiation. There's just too much smoke for that not to be the case. The problem is the sources are used to knowing exactly what is going on and they don't in this case because Byrne is handling this search in a secretive manner, which I applaud.

It could be over, or we could still be in the process. We don't know. I'm not holding out hope or giving up hope, I'm waiting to see what plays out because nobody knows anything. Cool down and relax.

Of course I wouldn't be disappointed with alot of the names floating around. I dared dream that we could land Petersen, might still happen but who knows. I would be amazed if we landed him when alot of other schools hadn't been able to get him. The Oregon job being locked up is the only thing different with our senario.

Where are all those who had "sources close to the situation"? What are your sources saying now? Not being a smartass, I'd really like to hear the explanation.....

You said it perfectly. Nobody but Byrne knows what has and what is going on. Nobody!

We can usually count on you for a level-headed response. You are absolutely right. Nick Saban said, "I am not going to be the coach at Alabama." 24 hours later, he was being raped by that crazy woman at the Tuscaloosa airport. I still am confident that we are negotiating with Petersen. I hope it works out. If it doesn't, I trust Byrne at this point to not settle for someone disappointing to half the fanbase (Dooley/Bowden).

why cant you accept Peterson at his word?

1. he has made it very clear many times that he wants to stay in Boise and has turned down many schools.

2. he certainly has a lot more integrity than Saban and should not be compared with him in any way.

We have many other good choices and I am sure that Greg will come up with the right one - it just doesnt have to be Peterson.

Not only is Boise State ranked 9th and Ohio State 10th in the BCS, Ohio State played 2 good teams (USC and Penn State) and lost to both. Boise State played 1 good team (Oregon) and beat them.
