positive. I was encouraged by his discussion of the continuity of the likely offensive schemes from HS to college. But there is little certainty at this point.

No matter what, his talent will not be wasted as it would have under the previous regime.

The notion that a new coach somehow hurts our recruitment of an offensive star is a little tough to swallow.

I'm thinking he's mad that we fired Croom and other coaches have jumped on the "Mullen needs a Tebow to win" bandwagon and Russell is listening. Sying things like "Mullen will do fine at MSU" leaves me with the belief that Russell is leaving off the end of that sentence......."without me". Then again I lean towards the negative side.

Mullen did fine with no Tebow at Utah, and did fine with Chris Leak and occasionally Tebow, I have no doubt he has what it takes to coach a team to victory.

the "Steve Spurrier is an offensive guru" myth will never die.

He once was. He isn't anymore.

its bad for your health. However, we must sign a quality QB. Mullen better camp out in Russell's yard after the NC because I imagine he will be the key to keeping some of the players we have along with landing the missing pieces. If we dont get Russell, Mullen better have a rabbit in his hat.

This comes down to us and Bama. Period. I'm intrigued by what Russell may be thinking. Bama's got Greg McElroy (RS soph), Star Jackson (a Russell clone with a redshirt year under his belt) and McCarron (4*). Or he can come straight in and START as a soph or (hopefully) RSF. "Grey Matter" Relf is your comp? Please. I realize it's stupid to attribute logic to an 18 year old with BCS champ coaches in his ear, but .....

claims that Russell told him that its us and SC.

I have no idea if that guy is being honest. Claims he goes to school with Russell.

And that's the problem a lot of QBs make. They go to the school that gives them the best chance to win rather than the best chance to play. Of course, you don't want a QB that doesn't have the confidence to think he can beat anyone out for the starting job, but at the same time, a lot of QBs waste a few years and sometimes their career going somewhere where they end up backing up other great QBs.

he came to state knowing he could win big, but failed to see that Henig was ahead of him.

Well, maybe Snead and Cam Newton are better examples.

the Elite camp at UAT last spring. There has been zero let-up (as you can expect from them). Meridian is CRAWLING with bammer inbreds. It's either us or bama.

Or Blake Barnes and Joe Cox if you need examples of guys who wasted entire careers. Cam Newton may still get to start at Florida either next year or the year after though, so we don't know if he wasted his career just yet.

I really have no problem with it, as long as the QB is at least smart enough to see the writing on the wall and move on. Cox and Barnes both should've put in for transfers when it became apparent that Stafford would be the guy. If you're going to not win the starting job as a QB, then you better make sure the guy ahead of you is at least 2 years ahead of you in school, otherwise it's time to get out.

an upswing in recruiting once Mullen is done with Fla and has another NC to brag about this January when recruits come in for visits.

that supposedly grew up an MSU fan and plays on the offensive side of the ball could somehow look negatively (if he does) at the switchout from Croom to Mullen. That just blows my mind. We go from a guy who engineered at or near the WORST offense in ALL of college football for 5 straight years to a guy who was integral in establishing top tier offenses at 3 different schools over the past 10 years (with or without Tebow) and somehow that doesn't excite Russell? In fact, in Croom's first 5 recruiting classes no highly recruited QB would even give him the time of day. Just goes to show you that logic sometimes has little impact on the recruiting scene.

South Carolina would actually be a pretty good fit as much as I hate to admit it but I don't see why you'd want to go way up there for mediocrity. We'll be that good in a year or two anyway when TR starts playing.

I'll say two things will keep him from Bama. 1. McCarron is better than TR. Not by a lot but he's just a bit better. Saban, in the end, will not be stupid enough to push McCarron away and 2. A.J. is not staying if they commit another QB. I also don't see TR going there, either, if A.J. stays committed. Whatever anybody may say, the two will not both sign with Bama.

TR's a Bulldog. Forget the internet. Unless Mullen puts a move on his mom or some other unreal occurrence, TR is going nowhere. Just enjoy the visits and sign right here.

but if Russell doesnt want to come to State because we fired the worst offensive coach in modern SEC history and replaced him with a 2-time National Championship Offensive Coordinator- then Russell is a dumbass and I dont want him wearing maron and whit

but apparently Croom and the Russell family became very close. I think that's why there may be some hard feelings, since we fired his "friend". (Trying to think like an 18 year old and not logically)

..personally, I think Russell signing with MSU is still pretty much a foregone conclusion.

But if it's not, Mullen strikes me as the type who will do a world-wide search if that is what it takes to land a quality QB.

Outside of the upcoming Cotton visit which seems to be a Plan B, I think Mullen also has a Plan C & Plan D when it comes to landing a SEC caliber QB.

Mullen realizes he can not run his offense without a good QB.

And he will go to every length within the boundries of legal NCAA recruiting tactics to land him one.

So that's why I'm not too worried even with the off chance TR doesn't sign with State.

Anyway, somebody posted here yesterday that currently Miss. State has the #1 juco recruiting class in the nation.

If the Tyler drama is getting you down, you can always fall back on that.

in the nation. I will be shocked if Cotton visits MSU much less signs here. With that being said I think MSU will keep most if not all of the committs. With everyone committing early these days most top programs have their classes pretty much filled. There are not that many options out there.

.... that for once MSU could finally get quarterbacks to come to our program because of the new scheme. Instead, we're fighting to keep the one guy who fits into the new scheme better than anyone. Must be our Indian Mound.

If you are Russell and all reports are that he is a tremendous pocket passer with a great arm, and is 6'6" and can make all the throws, and he committed to MSU when Croom was still saying West Coast/Balanced Offense, and now it is all spread all the time, isn't it possible he may be having second thoughts.

Isn't it possible that he may think that he doesn't fit Mullen's offense? Pat White and Omarr Conner are perfect fits for Mullen's offense, I think Cotton is a good fit as well, but from what I have seen from Russell he is more a classic pocket passer.

Now Im sure Mullen could run that offense, but so far he hasn't run a pocket passer offense, and if you are Russell and you have pro aspirations don't you think you should make sure you are going to fit into your prospective school's offense? Is that really dumb?

Pat White made sure he was going to get to play in an offense that showcased his talents, Omarr Conner didn't.

Michael Spurlock made the pros as a KR, at Ole Miss he was trying to run a pro style offense at 5'11" and 4.4 speed. Just insane.
