I was highly impressed by Tyler Russell's feet. I have never and I mean never seen an MSU QB look as relaxed in the pocket as Russell did. He just calmly stood there and threw the football.

Yeah, this was just Memphis. But MSU has played tons of Memphises, Maines, UABs, etc over the years and I've never seen our QB look like that.

We can't call him a Heisman candidate yet. I look forward to seeing how he reacts and plays when Auburn is chasing him. I'm REALLY curious to see if he can feel pressure coming and deal with it. Because he was just too damn calm tonight.

My expectations were not too high after watching the spring game, but I was very impressed with him.<div>
</div><div>13-16 250+ yards and 4 TD is damn good for your first college game, no matter who you're playing.</div>

It was refreshing to see passes, long passes, completed down the middle of the field. Tyson Lee, bless his hard-working heart, couldn't see the middle of the field.

He was very upright when throwing the ball, had a nice looking throwing motion, and looked pretty confident. He had a nice corner pass to Marcus Green, and did a good overall job of making throws to keep us in drives. I wasn't at the game, but some of our receivers looked like they had some pretty open spaces. I couldn't tell whether it was from good offensive scheming, or our WR"s doing a good job of getting space, but I was very impressed with the WR"s tonight. Good to see Arceto get in the action, but having the small shifty guys like Bumphis and Heavensis really gonna be helpful when needing to check down on blitzes. They both looked great across the middle tonight, and if Relf and Russell can get them the ball, they have big play potential.

the defensive players being in the C-USA and not the SEC. Aka, not as fast, athletic or strong. The O-line barely had trouble all night, and Bump and Berry ran ALL OVER the secondary, often untouched, and unmarked because they were just a lot faster. I will say, TRs first TD, through the hands of the DB, yea that's a pick against any SEC DB (they can jump more than 6 inches and have good hands). Not saying I didn't like what I saw from Tyler, it'll just be interesting, as ya'll said, to see him scrambling from AU rushers.

Somebody on here said that Memphis doesn't have the athletes? Last I checked Memphis ACTUALLY has talent. They get everybody's discipline problems. That doesn't mean they don't have talent. Jamon Hughes was and is pretty good. He just got into too much trouble. Normally they lose because of coaching. Canon smith was a decent QB @ Miami. I think we had success in the passing game because of play fakes and because last year we were predominately a running team last year. Memphis was focused on stopping our running game. So the play fakes froze safties & LBs creating spaces to throw the ball.

I've listened to all the talk and kept quiet, but you got to see why I think he is the future of MSU. He's got a fantastic arm and pocket presence. I'm not saying we need to run the Run and Shoot, but he will win us games with his arm.

to build on that performance he has a shot at being one of the better qb's in the league. I did not think he was ready and Memphis was really bad but he looked great last night.

I don't know if the Tebow/Leak model was a system that Mullen completely believed in and planned for, or if it was just a lucky bounce in personnel when he got to Florida, but whichever it was - it worked, and he has somehow gotten us into a similar position. ***No, I am not comparing Relf & Russell to Tebow & Leak on a talent level, just talking about the types of players.***

It should makes MState very difficult to gameplan for. If you're Auburn, do you spend the next 4 days scheming your D around the Russell offense, or Relf's?

It also gives Mullen great options during the game... If one QB is not feeling it, or if one offense isn't working against a particular D -- you're ready to go with the other guy and a completely new look.

I'm beginning to like the thought of that.

Note: I am not suddenly an overly-confident, obnoxious, "We're gonna win 10 games" type of guy. (In other words, not an Ole Miss fan.) But I was excited to see us beat an obviously over-matched opponent handily. Something I have rarely seen at MSU. Former teams would've won this game 24-17. This team believes it can be good, which can be a powerful thing. I love the new attitude, and that's all Mullen.
