he isn't close to being where he needs to be. Relf on the other hand is starting to look pretty good to me. If his confidence continues to grow he could be a terror because the guy is just huge and obviously atheletic. Relf could have a big year.

but he is still very young. Going to take some time. Let him play a couple of series a game to gain some experience and increase later in the year if justified. I think he will be ready to contribute a lot by next year. Hope so anyway. And I agree, Relf could turn out to be a pretty decent qb.

Russell is not only young but his in-experience showed from time to time. He did get pressured more than Relf but Relf just looks a whole lot more confident after a year of playing. Russell did some things good yesterday, he just needs to get a little stronger and get some real playing time. He's got the tools to be a good player.

How much did the White offensive line affect Russell. I know Maroon had the bulk of the starters.

more mentally prepared than he showed. His confidence level is worm dick level. Easily rattled.

Again, there is a reason crxxms was able to get his commit.

he was pressured pretty heavy. He hung in there but didn't look real confident, instead he was rushing throws and making some bad decisions. He doesn't throw a consistent spiral, Relf throws a much "prettier pass". The one time Russell looked good was on a drive where he completed 5 of 6 throws, he was pretty sharp and you could see the potential. It's gonna take a year or two for the clock to tick in Russell's head.
Btw, I think Relf will have a big year, if he stays healthy he will get better, being a junior he should or could be really good his senior year, he may not be a perfect accurate passer but he will be a playmaker.</p>

The first string OL looked good. There were times that Relf could just sit back, relax, and look for openreceivers -he usually completed those passes.<div>
</div><div>But even if you swapped O-lines Relf would have been better.I think the defense was "called off" at times to give Russell a chance, but he still looked bad.</div>

and fairly inaccurate. Not the worse spring performance of all time, but definately forgetable. To me, it looked like he still thinks he can throw over and around players. I dont think he has adapted to the the speed of defensive players on the D1 level. </p>

I will say that an offensive line that cannot protect the quarterback will make the BEST qb's look like complete garbage - (and guys that aren't really that good look like all-stars if their lines let them stand flat footed in the pocket for 8 seconds -- i.e. Jamarcus Russell and other LSU QB's).<div>
</div><div>I saw Drew Brees look like a jr. high qb when the Saints played the Cowboys, because they were in his face all day.</div><div>
</div><div>I'm reserving judgement until Russell runs the first team offense.</div><div>

At the same time, in all the years I have been watching MSU football, I have not seen a QB further along at this stage than he is. I think he will be good, but we must be patient and allow Dan to develop him. If we stick him out there, he is going to struggle and we're going to end up with Relf anyway.

didnt see Relf even hurried while there was pressure on russell most times he dropped back. earlier post about elliot's rushing stats showed the white o line was moving backwards. if you traded relf and russell, i think russell puts up the same if not better stats. first game russell has played since championship game in 08 so all in all i think he will be a good compliment to relf. I hope relf does great but I fear many are assuming he will play every game like the ole miss game, hope both do good.

I hope all of those that said we were foolish for redshirting him last year will just man up and admit you were as wrong as wrong can be. Tyler is just not ready at this time to lead an SEC offense as a full time starter. Yes, there was instances of a lack of protection but also he threw some very inaccurate passes even with time and Russell did NOT display the arm strength I was expecting. I will give him though that it appeared his receivers were having a lot of trouble getting any separation from the coverage. Don't know if that had more to do with good coverage or poor route running but rarely did Russell have much of a spot to throw to.
