If he transferred to State and spent his remaining three years destroying Auburn.

Worst AU beat writer ever. How dare he base a story (er... blog entry) off facebook?

Rollison was one of the biggest names in Auburn's 2009 signing class.
He was ranked as the top dual-threat quarterback in the nation by
Rivals. He was the national leader in total offense with 5,822 yards.
He led Sulphur Springs to the Texas 4A Division II state title.

AU had 5 scholarship QBs competing. Heh, welcome to our roster...I hope.

Of course, he could still transfer here, but without the release he'd have to pay his own way for a year.

That would drive AU people insane, to know that Wingnut stole Rollison.

Even better would be an Auburn-Texas Tech Cotton Bowl.

I thought Jevan Snead redshirted is Freshmen year at Texas. Didn't play is RS FR season because he was behind McCoy so he transfered to Ole Miss, sat out a year, and then started as a soph. If that's the case, he didn't lose a year of Eligibility so Rollison wouldn't lose a year either if he transfers here.

Stansbury just gave him that release because he's a good guy and because it was the right thing to do even though Ervin's team kept us out of the dance a couple of years later.

the irony of him leading the Pigs over us in a play in game for the NCAA Tourney caused some serious harm to the Sheep's psyche

He's too short to come to MSU anyways. We have to have QB's that are at least 6'3" or they'll just suck. It doesn't matter that he put up incredible #'s in highschool.

Why waste our efforts on a highly touted guy when we can snag QBs that nobody else wants? It's smart recruiting. Tyson Lee, Money Mike, Ty Evans --- how can you go wrong with that?!

and it holds true for Auburn as well- Newton is being brought in to be the starting QB...there won't be any competition for the job

I realize you can't really compare his situation to Shayfuh mainly because of the state of the two programs, but there are alot of similarities. And you hate to judge Newton with the Shayfuh deal in the background. But....

Both programs had alot of momentum, mainly from recruiting, going into the next season. Both teams were "down" from fan expectation but full of hope with new coaches, both with a year under their belt. Both teams had no QB and annointed a JUCO as the savior, granted Auburn is doing it more discreetly. And Newton didn't jerk them around about when he'd enroll.

So Auburn's going about the process better, but if Newton gets that high and mighty attitude like Shayfuh, watch for problems on the plains. No competition for a spot seems to do that - especially at the most important position on the field.

And what if Newton's just not as good as advertised?

I was just as certain that Schaeffer would be a huge bust when UM signed him as I am that Newton will at the very least be a solid QB for Auburn. Hope I'm wrong this time.

Newton is being brought in to run his type of offense- Shayfuh wasn't. Shayfuh is the Red and Blue version of Omar Conner. Have Omar Conner running our offense in 2010, and we would win 10 games...instead, he was stuck in an offense he wasnt suited to run.

You don't put Mark McGwire in a bunting contest...a smart coach plays to his player strengths

Early enrollment? JUCO status? Idiocy of Eddie O? Smarts of Chizik/Malzahn? The fact that MSU missed on him because we are cursed? A primadonna recruitment - twice?

Not trying to give you ****, just curious. I'm not judging Newton just yet because we only have one up close and personal recent case to base it on right now, and that's Schaeffer. But I could see some similarities go down if they try to have him drop back and throw all day and as I said before, the lack of competition. They both are runners and should be used that way. The way the Newton's were talking, he wants to be all NFL-esque. Maybe he's that good. Maybe he's not. Schaeffer, like Omarr Conner, could have been alot better.

I thought he was a misdirection type guy no doubt, but has succeeded with drop back guys. High school with Mustain, Auburn with Todd. I thought the big gripe at Arkansas was Nutt using a ground based offense instead of Malzahn's high flying stuff.

Again, not arguing, just asking on my limited knowledge of the guy....based primarily on watching us play them.

at QB and **** like that that bothered Malzhan. Having a QB like Newton, when used correctly, makes you that much better. Dont think of Burns when you think of Newton, Newton is supposedly is much better passer.

Tulsa had the #1 offense in the nation in 2007 and 2008. In 07 they had a 4700 yard passer with 40+TD passes and 1100 yard rusher. In 08 they had a 4000 yard passer with 40+ TDs and a 1500 yard rusher.

Sure Tulsa didn't play huge competition, but that's a potent attack and definitely not a 1 dimensional spread.

Shaeffer arrived right before fall practice, and was thrown into a pro style offense which didn't maximize his mobility and exposed his weak arm. He was also small and lazy.
