What is BB grade this year D- or F?
If CMB leaves (and he will) I could easily see us worse next year. We will surely be picked to finish last next year.

We were favored at home by 1 1/2 points but Georgia mopped us in the first half. Our offense is so bad. I did see we fought back in the second half.
How could it be anything but F? I might give it a 0.
I know some are delusional in their hope that CMB will come back next year, but he's consistently a fringe lottery pick in every draft projection. Some have him top 10. Why in the world would he come back to team with 2 conference wins. Particularly when at this point we really just don't have any idea what next year might look like. We could be anywhere from very good to completely awful, there's just no telling with Paris at this point. Hopefully it's the former. I think it would be great if he found long-term success here. Just doesn't look promising at this point.
I wouldn't be surprised if he transferred for a year to a "big boy" program to get his name out there a little more. Sure would like to have him back though.
I could have seen that for this season. As it is, he's borderline top 10, so I'm not sure how much he would stand to gain by coming back anywhere next season. It's anyone's guess these day's, though. Coming back here, I think it's just a risk that his stock would fall. He doesn't stand to gain anything coming back here...only lose.

The first point is obvious. Whether it will help or not, we shall see. Here's hoping.
At least this year he's pretty much set the floor. We really can't be any worse, at least record-wise. You hear it said a lot, but it's never been more true about team than this one: there's nowhere to go but up.
Unfortunately, when a team gets in this position, a 4 or 5 SEC win season next year will be pointed to by some as "proof things are getting better and Paris is turning things around".

Not one of the worst teams in our program's history. I expected a decent drop-off. Not a cataclysmic collapse.

There are to many 3 year coaches in lesser universities doing better.
Mulligans are usually a coach's first year. Paris won big last year and got a huge raise and extension. He doesn't deserve any more mulligans, he needs to produce or be gone now.
Well, yeah, even the most ardent Paris defender would agree another bad year next year gets him the axe.
He will be back next year. Whether he "deserves" to be back is debatable.
In my opinion, the worst case scenario for next year is that he gets 4 or 5 SEC wins, including one "big" win and that lets him off the hook for another year even though the season really isn't very good. I see coaches limp along for years barely winning but not losing big enough to be fired.
That would not be surprising in the least. A garden variety bad year will look like a rousing success compared to this year. We could go 6-12 and you'll have fans arguing that we tripled our conference wins. One wild card is the new AD. He didn't hire Paris and he can't be as emotionally attached as Ray would be to the head coaches.
The bar has been set almost historically low this season. I mistakenly thought his first season set the floor for his tenure, but he took a jackhammer to that floor and got a good bit lower.
After last season, I felt pretty good that he had a solid eye for talent and putting together a roster of players who, though not highly rated, came together to make a very good team where the whole was greater than the sum of its parts. But it's looking like he just got lucky with last year's mix of players.
The new AD has a tough job ahead of him. Athletics lost about $200,000 last year, that is the best financial news in several years, losses have been in the multi million dollar range for some time, probably due to buyouts of coaches salaries. Getting rid of Paris would mean another buyout and the new AD can't be too excited about that. In hindsight, giving Paris that raise and extension probably wasn't such a great idea. The fact no other program was coming after him should have told Tanner something but apparently he didn't get the message.
I'm afraid gamecock fans are stuck with Paris for a while no matter what happens in the next couple of years. Mens basketball actually showed a $3 million profit last year and probably will show another profit this year. Unless the team is abysmal again, I don't see Paris going anywhere.
