Read through the article, and I wonder about the legality.

UGA's athletic department is suing, but the agreement was with an NIL collective, not the athletic department. Are those two entities now tied legally?

Also, there was a time you couldn't tie NIL deals to games played. Im guessing that changed in recent years.

In the end, this is a good thing. If ot gets enforced, it may bring a little stability to the portal madness.

Cool. Go after a kid with no legal department who will have to settle because he can't afford the attorney fees.

I don't agree with NIL, but big $$$ athletic departments picking on kids who will just have to settle is not the way to fix the situation.

I'm confused.

Please explain how this is "picking on" the "kid"?

He signed a contract and they claim he didn't honor the terms of it. That's one of the reasons for a contract - to provide legal recourse when a party doesn't perform per the agreement.

If you gave a "kid" six-figure money for agreed upon services and they didn't fulfill their part of the contract, would you let them just have it or would you "pick on" them in an attempt to recover it?

I hope the kid loses, but even as a layman, I see problems with this case.

I am not a lawyer, but I am sure UGA has exceptionally good lawyers. These “kids” are not kids. Many of them are getting more to play college football for a year than most in this forum would make in several years.

UGA is just "standing on business". That's what these kids wanted.

Supposedly, Missouri gave the kid the money to buy out the NIL deal and the kid never gave the money to UGA.

Kid's a thief basically.

I don't know, these "kids" have been pretty effective in their court battles with the NCAA, which is known to have a considerable legal department and resources. I think they may be undefeated.

If there was a signed contract and he didn’t fulfill his terms, this is different than the NCAA stuff

Not actually sure about this. As a believer in a system that doesn't treat an 18 year old like a 2 year old where all consequences are erased, I like it and Godspeed. As a realist, there are a great number of medacious f**ks who will use this to negatively recruit. I mean I hate UGa, but anyone who holds these kids accountable will suffer.
