But this game is in Oxford and the program is under a new regime. Hugh Freeze will be looking to generate some sort of momentum for the program. What better way than beating your arch-rival? While I still think Mississippi State will be favored and has the upper hand in the talent department, this isn't exactly a given."</span>

Is that Chris Low? (espn blocked at work) How can any rational mind not see the absolute clear difference in talent between the two schools right now. You'd have to be mentally challenged. I can't think of one position group where they are even on par with us right now! Except Punter, they hold a clear advantage.

Now that may change in the future, Freeze is recruiting well yada, yada, yada.... but Nutt left them in terrible shape. Just terrible.

They are two years removed from upper-tier bowls.

I'm not saying they are going to be world-beaters but I believe they will be better this year. If our team approaches the Egg Bowl like they did in 2009 (as a given win) then it's going to be a bad day.

When the better team is playing on the road, it's never a given. Never. There haven't been many significant upsets in this series the last 20 years, but when the clearly worse team is at home, they win close to 50%.

It read to me as the Author was stating that it is not necessarily a given that MSU will be favored or has the upperhand in the talent department.

Still say we win the egg Bowl in dominating fashion.

<h5>Edward Aschoff</h5>

Aschoff joined ESPN.com in 2011 after spending four years covering
the University of Florida for The Gainesville Sun. He grew up in Oxford,
Miss.
, before attending UF, graduating with a B.S. in journalism.</p>

</p>

I don't disagree with him though, If we go in there thinking it's a given, our coaching staff has failed. I don't see that happening.

Optimus Prime 4 said:
not much, but some. The lesser team has won the matchup quite a few times.

Since State hired Jackie, who change its football program forever and allowed us to take control of the rivalry:

1/3 of the games have been won by a team with a worse record- with State taking 5 of those 7...

1993- State- Starkville
1996- State- Oxford
1997- Mississippi- Starkville
2000- Mississippi- Oxford
2001- State- Starkville
2005- State- Starkville
2009- State- Starkville

State has won 4 times in Oxford and had the better record 3 of those 4- so only one upset by the Bears at home against State with a worse record

while we might beat them on july 27th, 2012. We still have 11 games to get through, with a qb that couldn't make it through bowl practice.

keeping Russel safe should be our #1 priority this year. He should be walking to class in a bubble suit.

Plus, there's no way MSU isn't prepared for that game. You know Mullen will have them ready to go. When the more talented team is as, if not more, focused as well- they're going to win.

"It is not a given that MSU will win the game, even though they will be favored and have better talent."
