I know most of you will not buy a non-refundable plane ticket until after the official selection show. You should at least be thinking about how you could logistically get to Jacksonville, Florida for the game. Prices at Bluegrass Airport in Lexington are already climbing. Delta is probably seeing the biggest uptake in prices. My wife and I bought our plane tickets yesterday. Today that same flight is going for $743 per passenger. Once the announcement is made many flights will be sold out and stragglers may be forced to drive 12 hours to Florida. Some of you have done this before and you know it isn't pleasant.

With that in mind, I think the cost savings for flying into Orlando, Daytona, or Gainesville could be well worth it. If you pick Orlando, then look at the flights a few days before and after and see if a holiday trip to Disney makes sense for your family. (It might just get the wife and kids on board for the game).

Personally, I use the ITA matrix app for iPhone. It easy to understand and manipulate travel options. Kayak.com uses the same software, but the ITA matrix app is the go to resource for veteran travelers on sites like flyertalk.com

I wish you all the best of luck.

I want to pull the trigger on plane tickets. I already have hotel and have preordered tickets to TaxSlayer. Care to make me feel better about why you are so sure it's Gator Bowl, that way I can book plane tickets and be done with it? Lol

There has been a lot of guessing as to which bowl were going to, but no one really knows for sure. I would hope that Barnhart would come out with something a little more positive. I realize that a couple of games could change some, but he should have some idea of the two bowl games we might be going to.

You won't hear a peep out of that Cat! He is bound to not share knowledge that takes place in those meetings.

Driving down day after Christmas and staying until Jan 8th. Will spend the night before in Jacksonville. But have a house in central Florida and kid is excused from school for the first week. So Disney/unversial/sea world for two weeks.

If we go anywhere else it's a drive to the game then from bowl game to Florida. Hoping for taxslayer/outback. Then Charlotte isn't too far out of way. But want a Florida bowl game.

By the time I drive the hour plus to Cincinnati, spend a couple hours at the airport because you have to be early, fly to Savannah, procure a rental car, and the drive the two additional hours to Jacksonville I can pretty much just drive the 11 hours to Jacksonville from Louisville, and for a lot less money as it won't just be me going.

I'll be driving down. I don't fly if I don't have to. Not a bad drive though. Just waiting on them to make the official announcement before I book anything.

Have a fun drive! I got my flight from Baltimore to Savannah booked, but my parents live in Hilton Head so have a place to stay and don't need a rental. Haven't been to a game with my old man since 2005. Looking forward to it!

I've made MANY long drives over the years to see UK football and basketball games. I really don't mind the drive and, like I said, there's very little advantage for me to fly but a lot of expense. Main thing though is to get there somehow.

I agree. Just giving you a hard time. Not bad of a drive at all for you.

I gambled on a parking pass at the taxslayer,, $25--$34 after fees. Preordered tics off of UK so no gamble there. Haven't got a room yet. Driving from KY but would probably fly if I found a really cheap fare for two.

Sometimes I fly places and sometimes drive(don't mind driving)but I know what you are saying, people always say "you can fly to destination in two hours but they aren't figuring in time driving to airport and setting there waiting then setting while flight is delayed an hour or so!then perhaps missing a connecting flight and spending a night somewhere you don't want to be then finally getting to your destination but you luggage doesn't!!Flying can be nice,, or not!

You won't get "cheap" come Sunday. I'm hoping the airlines can upgrade the aircraft equipment to larger planes to accommodate the demand. With it being centered around New Year's weekend I'm not sure how plausible that would be though. The kink in the system is the limited number and small planes to your connections which are mainly Lex-ATL & LEX-CTL. Then you get a double whammy because everyone will want to fly back on Sunday afternoon. The economy parking lot will be filled up at Bluegrass Airport as well.

Remember that quote about Kentucky being a sleeping dragon in the SEC? The dragon is waking up.
