I know most of you will not buy a non-refundable plane ticket until after the official selection show. You should at least be thinking about how you could logistically get to Jacksonville, Florida for the game. Prices at Bluegrass Airport in Lexington are already climbing. Delta is probably seeing the biggest uptake in prices. My wife and I bought our plane tickets yesterday. Today that same flight is going for $743 per passenger. Once the announcement is made many flights will be sold out and stragglers may be forced to drive 12 hours to Florida. Some of you have done this before and you know it isn't pleasant.
With that in mind, I think the cost savings for flying into Orlando, Daytona, or Gainesville could be well worth it. If you pick Orlando, then look at the flights a few days before and after and see if a holiday trip to Disney makes sense for your family. (It might just get the wife and kids on board for the game).
Personally, I use the ITA matrix app for iPhone. It easy to understand and manipulate travel options. Kayak.com uses the same software, but the ITA matrix app is the go to resource for veteran travelers on sites like flyertalk.com
I wish you all the best of luck.
