Yeah. Sucks he's in that situation, but the solution seems pretty clear. I'd probably just block his number and not call the police unless anything else happened though.

The reason you do that is for documentation. That way if something does happen, and the judge says "why didn't you do anything about it before" you can say, "I did." that's really the only purpose to do anything like that. It may also get his attention, and have him wise up and leave him alone.
