Well the recent KSR podcast, the 3 coaches certainly sounded excited about the season, and seemed to imply that they thought they had about everything they need. We'll see.

I think we have a good assembly of pieces offensively, but still need some pieces and added depth defensively. We just need to get over the 5 win hump, which is very doable. We only lose a handful of seniors this year, so 2017 is setting up to be one of the best in many years. We can and should beat South Carolina, Missouri, and Vanderbilt. I think we also pull off a win we shouldn't this year, not sure against who yet, but it will come from the MSU, UofL, UF group.

Even if they do win 8 can they sustain it? Brooks had seasons winning 8. Mumme, Curci, Caliborne, Morriss, and even Curry has had seasons that would be considered good by UK standards. The problem is they typically follow it up with real stinker seasons. Its like they take one step forward and then two steps back.

A whole lot of history says they won't but I really like the way this thing is setting up. Stoops just has to get 6 or 7 this year and next year should be a very good year. With the recruiting classes he has been bringing in each year, there is absolutely no reason to backslide over the next 3 or 4 years. From 2017 to 2020, we should be a middle tier SEC program. IF Stoops can take moderate success and use it as a springboard to boost his recruiting up another notch then we could be looking at something special starting in about 2022. For this to happen, we have to hold on to Stoops and we have to avoid major meltdown or negative event.

That's over. Gran was a huge hire. He's got SEC type cajones as an OC. I played the game at D1 level, and this is the best foundation I've ever seen at UK football.
I agree. Gran and Hinshaw are home runs and Thomas did a great job with UL's young WR's last year. I am not as sure about the new defensive coaches but Gran is perfect for what Stoops wants to do.

Look, if Stoopes and crew can sign more four stars in one class than committed the previous TEN years combined coming off a TWO win season, BOTH OOC, then I hate to imagine what they can do with an eight win season. That would verify that not only can they put a football team together, they can coach them also. I don't expect eight wins this season but I do expect six (or seven) and think eight in 17 is very doable.

Right now I think six wins is the threshold for continued success in recruiting, and I can't wait until we do reach that eight win season, if we can keep most of this staff together it should explode at that point..

I think most of the learning curve for our players AND coaches (along with some replacements, on both) is about over, and steady progress should be expected from now on. Maybe not this year but in 17 I definitely expect us to finish over 500.

Once again, I think the ONLY big fly in the ointment is the insane FACT that the two nearby CITY COLLEGES are paying their players TWO THOUSAND more a year LEGALLY than we are------and I am pretty sure that isn't nearly all of it where at least one of them is concerned.

While sustaining wouldn't be easy, I think UK there is tougher. I mean if Stoops can recruit as he ahs with nothing but vision, I'd think it would get easier. Eight is within reach this year imo, but will be happy with 7 & OK with 6. Five gets tough.

Jay Reim...we got this. Be wary this season. Part of turning the corner is defeating UL. Post that on your board.

If UL are top 10-15 as some are touting, why wouldn't UK improving to seven wins with a loss AT UL still be turning the corner?

True. But you gotta defeat your rivals. I know I know. SEC has our attention. But believe it. The players want this game. It's a huge mojo lift and it takes to a shot of 8 wins.

We look foolish predicting that the football team has turned the corner in June. Lets play some games first before we starting patting each other on the back.

I said WE WILL. Not that we have. And we will do it this season. Naysayers can be so predictable. And I'm not saying you are a naysayer. More like a realist.

Phil Steele has a list of 5-7 teams he expects to break through the upcoming season. It's been crazy accurate just like the rest of his stuff. I'm really hopin Kentucky is at the top of that list, especially after back to back 5 win years. I check his daily blog post and will link when he releases or I get the hard copy.

Just a reminder that Thomas had nothing to do with UL's wide receivers last year......that was all Nick Petrino. I know it was because all the Little Brothel fans said so......

Below was written by Jay Reim on the UL BOARD:

Some numbnut called KeepingItReal (KeepingItRealDumb) says that this is finally the year and we need to be wary. Claims to have played DI football (false!) but won't say where. He's entering jauk 5.65764239 levels of stupidity. National Champs in the month of June. EVERY.SINGLE.YEAR

Jay - yes, I did play 3 years of college football. And yes, I was recruited by Weber and company before Schnell came in. In fact, one of my fondest memories was being at the UL-Miami game on a visit watching the likes of Kosar hooking up with Eddie Brown down the sidelines on a TD pass. But believe what you want.

Never claimed UK will be national champs, but they are building something strong and there is a new pride level in uk football that hasn't been there for a while.

I didn't say it was finally the year to be wary of of UK just this season. UL is NOT a national power that you think they are. UL should be wary every year. They are middle-tiered program and that is the ceiling. As much as you believe they'll play for a title, it'll never happen. But believe what you will.

True, UL has achieved higher recent success, but UK is gaining ground. Here's the real point, UK's aim isn't to compete with the level of UL. It's to compete with the likes of Alabama, Auburn, LSU and Florida and so on. Defeating UL is a step in the right direction and a measuring stick that'll show progress and it simply means UK can hang with middle-of-the-road teams like yourself.

THE TIME FOR TALKING IS OVER!! THIS HAS TO BE THE YEAR WE TURN THE CORNER!!!

Sorry for all of the yelling, but I truly want to believe in Coach Stoops and his ability to make UK Football a winner, so now has to be the time!!!

We must eliminate the stupid mistakes that have plagued the past 2 seasons(penalties at crucial times, turnovers, missed tackles, being out of position and coaches making head scratching decisions)!!

Hopefully our entire team and coaches are HUNGRY for success!!

I'm very hopeful that we go bowling this year and it helps us continue to build for next year. However, I've been watching UK football since 1969 and I am very wary of getting my hopes up (again).

When I look at our schedule here's what I see:
Wins: Southern Miss (tough one), N. Mex. St and Austin Peay
Losses: Georgia, Florida, Bama, Vols
Winnable: S. Carolina, Mizzou, Vandy, UofL, Miss. St.

Last year, we beat SC and MO and we should have a better team while both of those teams should be worse. Have to be a favorite to beat Vandy at home (should've creamed them last year but played one of the worst all-around games I can remember). MSU lost a bunch of talent not least of which Dak Prescott who killed us and started for 3 years. I know their program is ahead of ours but they don't just reload every year. They will take a step back. Finally, UofL - tough game but we certainly were in it last year and we should be better. Jackson scares me to death but we can hardly play the read/option any worse than we did last year.

So, 3 pretty sure wins, 4 pretty sure losses and 5 games we CAN win if we play well and don't beat ourselves. I think it's very possible we win 3 of the 5 for 6 wins. I don't think it's completely unrealistic that we win 4 of those 5 for 7 wins although I do think 7 is the ceiling this year. We could also only win 2 of those 5 and finish (sigh), once again, at 5-7.

Gotta go bowling this year to have any hope of keeping what little momentum we have currently going.
