We are going to be so good they’re going to be forced to talk about us at some point. Probably after we beat Louisville comfortably.

I would normally agree with the thought that exhibitions are meaningless. They usually are. UK's usually are. But this wasn't your usual exhibition. This was a Purdue team coming in ranked #1 preseason. And both teams did play a lot of guys, but Purdue played their best players significant minutes, more than any UK player got. And those guys played together all last year and are upperclassmen. Purdue should have been able to run its offense with its best returning players without missing a beat. Sure, you expect points to be scored but this was a defensive struggle, not a typical exhibition.

And to the OP's point- the national media almost never gives UK its due. I'm not surprised they spent little time talking about our win over #1 Purdue. It has to be a fluke, right? Even though the Cats won with defense, not hot 3pt shooting.
An exhibition is an exhibition, no matter how you sell it.

They give UK props all the time, it's just not the biased view the fans have. So to them, obviously, the media is wrong.

So this game in two weeks means more than a game today? See, I don't buy it. That's the same crappy argument that a win in November means less than a win in February. That's Cal logic. And it's flawed. They all matter.

I tend to be of the mindset that exhibitions are pretty meaningless. We could have won or lost by 50 and I would have likely felt the same.

I honestly don't even think early season games are a good barometer either. So many factors play out over the course of the season that alter things for everyone. I think you really get the most accurate depiction of who/what a team really is during conference play.

We were also in Rupp, where we were pretty good last year. How will things look when we are in a neutral or road environment?
Some people on here freaked out over the blue white scrimage so I honestly hope this eased some of there concerns so they can live a balanced and productive life.

Uhh, does it count against the record in 2 weeks? Well, that should probably tell you it means more.

It does matter less in November. The committee puts less emphasis on early season games than they do later season and conference games.

Jeez, dude. This really isn't that hard.

So, Purdue magically whips our *** two weeks from now? Doubtful.

I'm not saying we're going to win it all. I'm saying I'm much more confident of it after last night. Because Purdue didn't impress me AT. ALL.

Lol, who said they would?

Dude, logic really isn't as hard as you're making it out to be.

That's fine, Purdue didn't impress me either, but that doesn’t change the fact the game was just an exhibition and meaningless. It literally does not count for anything.

IIRC, there have been more than 1 team over the last several years to lose an exhibition and go on and advance deep in the tournament.

Clearly, it has given you a massive hard-on, but don't get upset when most don't share that feeling right now.

Good job with the 5 y/o level logic skills.

Granted it's preseason, not too concerned. The grind of sec play will always tell us more.

Feel like people are on two extremes here.

You have to be careful taking too much from specific games. Even if it is against the number 1 team in the nation. You cannot expect the national media to jump on the bandwagon after 1 game either.

On the other hand, it's silly to say this does not matter. Even when we played cupcakes in the exhibtion you could always gain information from those games.

good........ our team has a bad freaking habit of sheeting the bed when everyone gets a massive ego. I want us to play great but stay humbled and media and rival fans etc not giving us credit will help us stay humbled but hungry.

It's their boogie man name for anyone that won't agree with them.

They try to discredit those posters by calling them lead belly. Just a fallacy.

He's a guy who trolled the old board pretty heavy. Used lots of circular logic, gifs and emojis. He got into it with a couple of guys pretty bad. Stalked them all over the board. I never interacted much with him. I find it's best to avoid that.

The committee does not put more emphasis on later season games than early season games. Haven’t done that in decades.

Because like it or not social media controls the narrative.

Because you KNOW if we lost last night the opposite would be true. Everybody and their grand mother would be talking horrible crap. Heck some of our fans would be.

maybe I’m just fed to the teeth with all the hypocrisy in the world.

I dunno. Would just be nice to see a headline that says UK put CBB on notice. Because I sure think we did. I mean our bench guys were giving it to Purdue’s starters.

You’re not wrong. And it’s interesting to watch unfold and discuss. That’s what forums are for.

I’m too thrilled with a big win, even in an exhibition to be moved too much one way or the other by what others are saying.

I’ll notice it, watch the highlights again, and keep smiling.

What I will admit, is not that it’s “just an exhibition” and doesn’t matter. Noooo. Purdue was trying and clearly treated that game like a regular season game or more. But I will say, it’s just one game.

Definitely need a bigger sample size before we know how good we really are or are going to be.

This team has some pieces though. Jasper and Malachi belong. But it’s going to get harder on guys as we face teams that have scouting on us. Pope and them are going to have to continue to try and stay a couple steps ahead.

In a lot of cases exhibitions are meaningless.

Teams are playing to work on things. Teams give their benches extended minutes to see what those guys can do. Teams aren't consistently using their best lineups or best sets.

Purdue played to win this game. Braden Smith played 32 minutes. Kaufman-Renn played 28 minutees.

Did we see the best version of Purdue? No. But Purdue didn't see the best version of Kentucky either.

Exhibition or not, I would’ve been very disgusted if we lost by 50. Pretty sure most UK fans would be.

I don’t get all the hype and histrionics over a practice. Here’s what we got. We saw a vastly greater potential to play defense. We saw a team that can pass and understands that’s the secret sauce for scoring. We saw a team that can rebound. We saw a team that seems to like to play together. This is what matters.

Who gives a flying “f” over some exhibition. We got a promising basketball team. Let’s throw it down when it counts. Somebody blow the damn whistle. We are freaking Kentucky moving into semiprofessional basketball. Exhibitions mean less than cow farts to us. We don’t establish a legacy in a new sport getting wound up over exhibition games.

There is not a lot of attention to these exhibitions. They are glorified practices and smart coaches are simply using them as a tool to work on specific aspects of their team and to learn about their team. I believe Painter when he said they did not do a hard scout on UK. The game was not about UK and his experienced team knows how to take their scouting information. There was probably more incentive for Pope to win this game. He has more new players who don’t need to doubt their process at this point.

I understand attention to Kansas. It struggled last year and Peterson’s first half against the Cards was remarkable. The media is looking for this year’s Cooper Flagg. Peterson put on a show in the first half that teased he could be that new player.

College basketball is all about matchups. We are simply a bad matchup for Purdue. They are certainly capable of beating us, but I guarantee they’d rather avoid us going forward.

From year to year, all you can hope for is that you’re a bad matchup for the majority of teams out there. And I think we are this year. Doesn’t mean we won’t get tripped up, but as I survey the landscape of the sport, I don’t see a single team that scares me or that I don’t think we could overcome in a neutral court, win or go home scenario. Florida would probably be the team I’d least like to see in the tournament, due to the combination of experience, coaching, and talent.

IDK, everything I saw and read the next day, was extremely positive. Aaron Torres raved about us as several others did, including a Locked On Purdue podcaster. He was impressed with our team.
Guess it's where you go to get your news.

The Lex Herald did a player by player comparison before the game and the only player they had us better at at their position was Oweh. But I liked what the announcer said, we are one of those crazy fast big and athletic teams that gave Purdue trouble last year - like Auburn. And this is a team that's not dependent on one player (Purdue is dependent on their point guard) We lose our starting point guard and we steal beat them by 20. We are scary good. Signed drinking the Koolaid.
