I just don't believe in filling up an entire thread with point counterpoint, between one or two posters gets really tiresome quickly. If you want to have a more in depth discussion, send me a private conversation. And I promise I'll respond

Your post directly addressed my point, I responded to it. It wasn’t off topic, it flowed with the conversation of the entire thread, and other people even chimed in throughout with their points. It’s Tuesday not that big a deal, I was shooting the ****, and I feel I’ve made my points. I have an 8,6, and 4 year old - sure would be nice for me not to pay 1 million dollars for them to get a watered down bachelor’s degree but I’m just talking into the wind. Anyway, as stated earlier, I have to go to twin peaks 😂

Endowments provide investment income for the university. Spending it would eliminate that income.

To reduce tuition and other expenses for future students, the state would have to invest in public universities as Florida has. With the mindset of Kentucky’s current anti-education politicians, that is unlikely to happen.
So why aren't they taking some of that interest and making College affordable for the kids now? 2.5 billion generates a lot of interest.

I don't know how current generations are going to be able to afford college. Some universities up my way are pushing close to 6-figures for a year of tuition. My wife is still paying off her degree from RIT, and that was only a 35-40k/year school. What's going to happen when the current age of college students walk out that door with $350k in college debt?
My son when to junior college for two years then did 2 years of on-line classes. Cost him a total of $5k after Keys money and grants. But you are right if you want to live on campus.

Tax on tourist so they dont have too.
Not every state has 100s of miles of coastline to offer that Florida does. And Kentucky is now under 4% and a fair amount of income is exempt. Like a portion of 401K withdrawal, social security and the first $25K or $30K of income. It's really not that bad at all

But you lose me when you start talking about colleges 'capturing and indoctrinating young people with ideology', that is just Fox News talking points.

Someone didn't pay attention to what happened on college campuses around the country in recent years.

Says the guy who probably got a loan for college and either a masters or Law degree. Our country needs more education. Not less. And it should be a priority over getting a trade job out of HS
Right right right... Because becoming an electrician isn't an education. But hey, let's pretend their career choice is beneath you because they haven't been "educated" on recognizing 187 imaginary genders and deconstructing colonialism.

As a follow up, I think when I was doing work for Davis H Elliot, it required two years training, and then two years apprenticeship to become a licensed electrician. Also, if I recall correctly, the industry was trying to get that period reduced to two years total for residential license only, to encourage more young people to get their license and expand the work force. It was definitely a trade that took some educational period, not something you could pick up a piece of paper in 90 days or less.

My anecdotal stories on this: I went to a private military highschool and then a private religious college.. those are two types of schools that would be the furthest "right" from a political standpoint.

And yet, in both schools I had 2 or 3 teachers who made it a point to bash George Bush and inject their Liberal ideologies. One of the classes was a 100-level religion class, and the teacher opened up class daily, talking about what Bush did that given day. Wasn't even remotely related to the class course. And the only conservative teachers I had, were the 60 year old ex-military officers who served, who really didnt inject much political into their classes (but they were no-nonsense, sit up straight, and probably hated anything resembling woke/snowflakes).

So what does that tell you? If those schools pulled that stuff.. what are they doing at Columbia? University of Kentucky? Public school 23 in any given city? Its not something that students have to deal with for all 7 or 8 hours a day, but its 100% something thats getting pushed on them by several of their teachers. And thats what parents are upset about.

Why, because it’s easy and guarantees a basic income for life? I always wanted more than unclogging 💩. That’s fine, the worlds needs ditch diggers too
Demeaning comment for no reason. Plumbers, electricians, welders, auto body, carpenters, etc., all possess unique skill sets. It may be "easier" than neurosurgery or engineering rockets, but still requires a decent amount of intelligence and a strong work ethic if someone wants to be successful.

That's what Murray, Western, Northern, Eastern and Morehead are for.

That's why Michigan(17% acceptance) has Michigan State(83%)

Florida(23%) and Florida State(23%) have Central Florida(41%) and South Florida(43%) followed by Palm Beach State(88%) and Valencia College(93%)

What you are advocating the University of Kentucky becoming is Wildcat High. In that system, outside of stem and high level business degrees, you are not highly educated you are just credentialed. Why does real college start at the graduate level now?
What’s really sad are the numerous courses you will find at almost any college for remedial English, Math, etc. It’s part of the reason it generally takes 5+ years to earn a degree (not even counting potential co-op assignments)

It’s about knowledge and networking. If you don’t know wealthy people, it’s hard to make big money.

Example of connecting with the right people. We got paired with a single lady for a tee time at a private club. We hammed it up with her and exchanged numbers. Turns out, she is an oil baroness and owns part of the saints. She texted me last night to invite me and the fam to a December Saints game because she is an owner.

How did I get on this private golf course? College buddy invited me. He has a Masters from gtech and now owns a lending company and a couple planes and vacation houses.
From a simple Google search:

Gayle Benson is the owner of the New Orleans Saints, taking over the team in 2018 after the death of her husband, Tom Benson. Gayle Benson is the sole successor and owner, with the team's operations managed under a trust.

Thomas Milton Benson Jr. (July 12, 1927 – March 15, 2018) was an American businessman, philanthropist and sports franchise owner. He was the owner of several automobile dealerships before buying the New Orleans Saints of the National Football League(NFL) in 1985

Your anecdote is 100% bullsh!t

Not everybody gets to a doctor or an astronaut when they grow up. The world still needs electricians, plumbers, and other skilled tradesmen.
It’s the responsibility of a society to educate its citizens. Skilled tradesmen schools are a missing piece of America’s effort to do that. Every state, Kentucky in particular, would benefit by offering an alternative to the traditional liberal arts secondary education. It should be a two-year extension of the Kto12 public school curriculum. No tuition. No charge to students for books or equipment. I think there would be a lot of high school graduates who would continue for the two years.

Cmon man. He was leading up to the best backstory his characters have had in a decade. He hasn't even posted his w2 yet.

Yeah, not quite as good as Bobby Petrino calling in for Thanksgiving dinner to announce he was going to be the new UK FB HC, but it was showing potential. My itchy trigger finger got the best of me.... Sorry.:p

I don’t know what some people consider successful and well-off but I don’t need millions and most don’t, over a lifetime sure, but not yearly. I don’t need multiple cars or a black card or fancy clothes, just doesn’t do anything for me. Honestly, it doesn’t do anything for most anyone, it’s to satisfy their ego and show other people they have it.

One job you can do without a college degree at 19-20 where you’ll make 6 figures in 10 years or less, full benefits, work 2-3 days a week, retire at 49-50 with full pension for the rest of your life that adjusts yearly for inflation is firefighter.

People are acting like planes, 3-4 houses, fancy dinners with people you don’t know or care about, and a vineyard make you cool/successful which to me sounds like a nightmare socially, work-wise and I’d rather jump off a cliff than do that for decades on decades.

Do what makes you happy, but do it for yourself not for social media and to impress other people.
