One would think he might compete for the starting job if he comes here...or could Stoops even consider using two qb's??? Situation may be interesting next year.

Not surprised that they are looking for a QB to come in and contend for the starter spot.Stoops went way down the road this season before he played Barker over Towles, then he even brought Towles back to try to save a game. Towles may not have been great but he was better than Barker. It says more than we wish it did about our current situation

I don't think Towles was better than Barker. PT had way more opportunities and could not take advantage. Barker was thrust into a terrible position at the end of the year and that was Stoops' fault . Barker should have played way earlier in the year. The villain in this whole thing was that ******* Dawson. Glad he is gone but we should have been in a bowl .

I'm all for adding depth at the QB position. We need someone with some college experience.

Would come here to start is my guess. 2 years to play 2.
One would think. Have to wonder how barker would take that? Better be recruiting another backup in case barker bails when he loses the starting job, or we"ll still be an injury away from disaster, no matter how good this guy is...also have to wonder how the young players who are "Barker guys" would feel about this. Not that i disagree with bringin the best possible guys in at all...just afraid of the affects this might have on a team coming out of a season that was defined by a team divide, which was likely spurred by an internal qb controversy...oh UK football...wonder how much Gran may have to do with thos offer?

He is a 2 star and he is already going to cause Barker to transfer?

Frankly, if hes not good enough to compete for the starting job, then hes not good enough to be our backup...either barker should be worried or we made an epic fail by offering.
Or Barker has the tools and big time potential, but this guy is serviceable in case something happens and at this point in the game, someone serviceable is better than nothing in case Barker goes down.

AJ Stamps' only offer was UK according to Rivals. Garrett Johnson didn't have a stellar offer list. Melvin Lewis had a poor offer list. Toth had a horrible offer list (Has earned SEC accolades). Regie Meant, Cobb, and a plethora of other great players for us started out as two stars or some other crappy rating.

I thought we'd learned to sometimes trust coaches and not rely solely on ratings and offers as measures of ability. Some players don't go to camps or get a lot of exposure. Stoops and Co have proven to be capable of finding talent where others don't. Let's let them figure stuff out.

Agree with your argument. I might not have included Regie Meant among great players who proved the evaluators wrong. Hopefully, he become a player who does.

Regie got it together and had a hell of a stretch before injury. Was not the same after he went down. I expect him to be one of the very pleasant surprises next season on defense.

Could this possibly mean that we should trust "the evaluations of our recruiters" other than those of others, or the lack of offers from others? Whose to say that others would have made offers to Stephens had they not had commitments from other choices? I like the way our coaches have recruited and I believe that Gran and Hinshaw know what they are doing. Go Cats!!

Everybody, including Barker, knows Kentucky needs some depth at QB. He should not be bothered by bringing in another QB in this class.

Barkers not going anywhere regardless of who we bring in.

I'm also curious how anyone could know how good Barker will be considering both his starts were in terrible throwing conditions.

He's already shown me he has better pocket presence, more accurate thrower, and has a quicker release than Towles ever did. Those are the intangibles that are hard to teach and things that Towles struggled with which has held him back from being the QB he could be.

He appears to have the things you said but he also appears to be slower afoot, less durable and have a less strong arm

Can he go thru progressions better or read defenses better? Those things remain to be seen.

An athletic kid with an arm, a brain and a 4.5 40 - I don't give a flip what the star watches will predictably say, I'm glad to have this kid on board. He's much needed.

If Barker throws 2 bad passes in the first quarter of the opening game the same bunch will be screaming for the kid they have never seen.

I am all for a dual threat kid and I was at the UL game/watched the Vandy game on TV, conditions were not that awful geez, it didnt even rain the entire game vs UL.

Barker did not play well. It was obvious why he hadn't played, although I too felt he should have been given reps much earlier.

Coaching decisions this year have been mindnumbing and ordaining Barker this early for next year cost us two qbs - those calling PT and Phillips quitters are kind of dumb, especially in PT's situation as 5th year senior.

If this juco kid can actually play does CMS rescind the "it's Barker's team?"...

I can handle losses but we really need to get to a place in that we are a solid organization and coaching does not cost us in games or off the field.
