Not too bad for ULL. It probably eliminates Hud's name for consideration as head coach down the road, but all in all survivable in that ncaa took what ULL imposed.

Yes, but the folks I know at ULL were praying that the NCAA would accept the self-imposed penalties which they did. Their thinking was it was 50-50 one whether the NCAA would go along.
I don't know about that. His conduct was extremely egregious even it was just limited to ULL. He set up fraudulent entrance exams, and then refused to cooperate with the NCAA investigation? He should be banned for life from employment at an NCAA member institution.
Do you consider Mullen's name eliminated from consideration as a head coach down the road? The ULL sanctions are pretty similar to our Redmond sanctions -- with basically equal culpability found on the head coach...
You are probably correct especially as there was no finding of loss of institutional control. Much can be overlooked in today's win at all costs mentality.
Vacating is probably the right word instead of forfeiting. IMO no one cares in the immediate sense -- but as it fades from memory -- it matters more and more to the people that didn't experience it live and in what the history books tell you. I'm pretty butt-hurt about the record swing our 70s sanctions caused before my time -- and having to hear for my entire life how we're a sub-.500 program, when the results on the field say that's been untrue for most of my life.
They did accept the self imposed sanctions but the NCAA also added to it including additional 2 years probation

My feeble brain understands that if somebody hires this Saunders douche, then Saunders and the team that hires him have to appear before the Infractions Committee... but then what? They just appear before the committee? And then they tell him that he's like a bad person and stuff? Like what happens after that? A show cause seems to have a really bad stigma, but I want to know what type of teeth it has.

May be the 2012-2014 seasons as well. School has to determine which games ineligible athletes played in.

Frankly, I would assume any UM player who took their ACT in Waynesboro from 2010 through Crager's retirement in 2014 is going to have their test scores called into question. I'm not sure how far back the NCAA can go with this, although it should be at least 2008 (start of investigation in 2013 minus five years).

The ULL sanctions are a lot more severe than what we got for Redmond.

Hell, it was common knowledge to anyone who followed college football in Mississippi that he had a "program to get players eligible" and that the program almost certainly wasn't completely within the rules.

I believe it means they have to appear before the infractions committee and "show cause" as to why he should be reinstated as a coach. Give proof and examples of how he is a changed man and won't cheat anymore. And there is no guarantee that the infractions committee would believe this and may deny your case to hire him. This would be a huge headache for any school hiring a coach, so no school is going to want to put themselves through that, especially for a position coach or coordinator. Also, it's not worth putting yourself under the black cloud of suspicion you would get for hiring a guy who is under a show cause penalty. So basically, if you're under a show cause penalty, you are blacklisted from the sport until it runs out.
Any school can hire a coach with a 'show cause', but the sanctions can be also applied to the hiring school unless they can 'show cause' as to why said sanctions should not also be applied to the new school. It is a way to keep coaches from committing infractions and resigning and heading to a new school free of sanctions and leaving the former school dealing with the fall out of the infractions.
It's been documented in ULL's response to the NCAA that his conduct didn't start at ULL, but "continued" to ULL when he was hired. What that means for Mississippi, I don't know.

Louisiana-Lafayette’s 78-page response to the NCAA’s Notice of Allegations said the interview covered events “while Saunders was employed by Ole Miss (or immediately thereafter) and [athlete’s name redacted] was being recruited by that institution.”
“Through the course of those interviews, it became apparent to (Louisiana-Lafayette associate director of athletics for academics and compliance Jessica) Lager that the enforcement staff was testing information that suggested Saunders knew of, or had been involved in, NCAA rules violations of an academic nature while employed at Ole Miss,” the response went on to say.

That may be, I'm just saying the length of his show-cause does not necessarily indicate his punishment is based on things that took place before he arrived at ULL. Now, the NCAA may have investigated (or still be investigating) his activities at UMIss, but I don't think you can read the tea leaves in his punishment.
One thing about the whole Powe deal I never understood. Why didn't he just go to Jones Jr. College and redshirt one of his two years there? He could have still gone to Mississippi with 3 years to play 3, and gotten on the field there 2 years sooner.

As I unfortunately expected, there is not even a single mention of OM in the article. Others can continue to kick the can down the road to blindly hope that something is looming for OM. After too many disappointments in hopes of such, I am going to acknowledge the elephant in the room -- there is nothing that is going to happen to them over Saunders or anything else. I think we look foolish anticipating that something is coming, even when a report comes out that doesn't even mention OM. It's as if we are so blinded by our hatred for them, that we appear as if we have a mental block in accepting reality. Anyway, when and if OM is caught cheating in the future, I will joyfully celebrate it, but in the meantime, I won't give others a reason to laugh at our unwillingness to see and accept the obvious.
Chappy, stop and think.....they would never call out a second school in the report of findings on the school involved in the report. Their release is only about the investigation just completed on ULL.

The moderators on both have clearly stated that Ole Miss has been under investigation regarding Saunders and that they are expecting penalties. I don't know where the contrary narrative is coming from. Join the damn board if you want to read it. Yancy addresses it for 10 minutes in his last podcast, which I think is free. He even says he believes the loss of scholarships is already being anticipated.
It seems pretty obvious to me what happened. Boone let Saunders feel unwelcome to say the least when he got wind of what was going on in 2010. I speculate ole miss settled the Saunders lawsuit by telling him he had to keep his mouth shut (which he has done). Yeah, you could say Bear Shark lawyers took care of it with hush money. If he blabs he would lose his settlement. Nothing illegal about that and a good move by Ole Miss. Saunders fell on the sword for both programs because you are some kind of stupid if you don't believe Hud knew what was going on.

The Saunders investigation will open up UM to further investigation, though. It's not just Saunders. It's the 2013 recruits and the guys being recruited now. Once they're on a campus, they stay until they have exhausted all possible resources and left no stone unturned regarding the activities of the university and boosters towards athletes, both current and potential.
Same risk you took with Redmond investigation. Of course there is risk but that stuff is hard as hell to prove. The truth is nobody knows anything. It appears to be a Saunders investigation. That guy made a living cheating the system and he got caught. He was doing the same thing for everybody at C-spire. What most ole miss fans are coming around to (including me) is Boone saved our ***. Hud is the one whistling past the graveyard. He knew what was going on.
