The last signed-out-of-high-school QB to play for Ole Miss was.....Michael Spurlock. Boy, they really know how to scout 'em over there don't they!

QB's! Seriously! They funny thing is.....the next one they sign will be the M Miller who hasn't really been offered by anyone! I know we started after him but our coaches soon realized (thank goodness) he wasn't worth the effort. Now OM is stuck with him and I bet they wish they could pull his offer as well.

when Tulane's football program was rumored to fold for the 20th time- nice move leaving the SEC- and Coach O called up their coach and told them- "Hey, if your program folds, could you please steer Lester Ricard (Tulane QB) to Ole Miss?" and it really pissed off Chris Scelfo, the Tulane coach who told the media about it?

They've found a way to get talented QB's on campus - something we really haven't done consistently ever.

Frankly I'm quite surprised with our complete lack of talent there that we haven't had some people interested in tranferring to us. Maybe there were some and we turned them away, who knows.

But yeah, their QB recruiting has sucked but so has ours - the difference is they realized it and found a way to correct it. We never really have. Hopefully that is changing with Mullen.

We had Cam Newton ringing a cowbell for what it's worth. If that piece of **** Cecil didn't have his hand out, what could have been........

and then there were some rumors about Masoli looking at coming to MSU, which I have no idea if they are true or not.

Our biggest problem recently with QB's has been that we weren't recruiting enough of them.

We should sign at least one QB a year- a guy like a Dylan Favre is much, much, much better than a great All-American long snapper in the grand scheme of things.

I'm might be in the minority on this, but I was kind of hoping that Chris Garrett would transfer to MSU just so that we would have another body at that position even though he wouldn't have ever started- hopefully.

Also, I'm keeping my eye on Hutson Mason at Georgia. Murray, their QB is a RS Fr., and Mason has played this year and is also a freshman. I'm thinking that he may want to go somewhere that he can actually play, and he has a RS year at his disposal. He looks like a transfer candidate to me. He may be crossing his fingers that Murray goes to the NFL early, and I do think that is a possibility.

Robert Lane had a shot at QB w/ Oregeron coaching. But of course, they did to him what Cutcliffe did to Spurlock. The offense wasn't suited for him. Would have liked to see either of them run this offense.

And in the last game of 2005, Flatt, Spurlock, and Lane all took snaps. Not sure which one took the last snap.

Schaeffer and Adams were both transfers in 2006 and 2007. In 2008 and 2009, Snead started all the games, but Tapp took snaps, Stanley took snaps in 2009 and 2010, and he started a game in this year as well, with Masoli getting the majority of the work.

I'll bet Mackey (Juco transfer) takes most of the snaps in 2011 and 2012 with Stanley getting some snaps too if he wants to stick around and play back up.

I don't know if I'd call that a zinger. Obviously, not all of those QBs worked out to be great for various reasons, but you take talent where you can get it. Your best defensive player this year wasn't signed out of high school by MSU. As someone else suggested, you probably wouldn't feel bad if Cam Newton was your QB right now.

At Ole Miss and MSU, we're going to always have trouble attracting good QB talent. For one, Mississippi doesn't produce many good QBs out of high school, and most of the best ones want to go to bigger programs. The plus side of that is that not all of them can start, and that's why the ones that lose out end up transferring. The best two QBs in the SEC this year signed with different programs out of high school, Mallett (Michigan) and Newton (Florida). I'd have loved for us to have been able to pick up either of those transfers.
