Agreed. Sure feels like a trolly kind of post, considering he can't even spell Darin right... just add it to the others, no need to start a new post.
Do you say the same thing after we lose a football game? I really only count two threads in the top 15-20 about this. If there are more, I admit I didn't see 'em.
Got it. There are TWO active posts that if read, you can pretty much capture this same exact sentiment. If I see an active thread after a football loss that captures the same thing and someone starts a new thread rehashing what several others have already said, I probably would say the same, yes.
What if we win? Is it OK to create a third post then? What if somebody didn't want to read through all the posts in all the threads? Then what?
Losing a game or two in baseball to any opponent is not like losing a football game. That's why the World Series is seven games and not a one game SuperBowl of baseball. Of course, I am disappointed but let's not exaggerate losing a game to a Holy Cross. If we played them seven times we win at least four but of course the season would end in August.
Not buying that. It's one thing to lose to Yale because you were overlooking them, but to come out flat against Holy Cross was inexcusable. Every player and coach knew it was win or go home.
We lost to two teams that don't offer baseball scholarships. It's not like we lost to San Houston or SE Louisiana, teams in the middle of baseball hotbeds, who indeed have a few really good players.
For the record, the Wildcard game in MLB is a single game, loser goes home. Everyone knows it and the losing team saying we would beat them in a 7 game series rings hollow.
Won't buy it, huh? Well buy this. There have been several college teams that beat MLB teams in Spring Training including Div II Tampa who beat the Phillies a couple years ago. Probably not the Phillie starters but it kind of shoots a hole in your won't buy it theory for Holy Cross winning a sole game vs NU. This isn't football.
To determine the "best" team in any sport, one would easily argue for a best-of series. However, if you look at the NBA where the regular season is losing ratings regularly and is nearly unwatchable, you might see an argument for a) a severe reduction in regular season games and b) a playoff scenario where maybe the first two rounds are one and done.
If you look at the NCAA basketball tournament, you see a ratings bonanza. There are several reasons, including bracket contests, but I believe a big portion of this is due to the Cinderella potential. I think many sports would benefit from the one and done scenario to increase fan interest.

Plus Yale and Holy Cross are warm weather schools, in the middle of recruiting hotbeds.
Spring training games are not real games, the loser's season isn't over. They are mixed and split squads from rookie ball all the way up. Get real. Do you have a box score? The only player the Phillies played in that 2015 game that was close to the MLB level was Darin Ruf.
It was 7 days into spring training, pro players are looking to get into playing shape, tweak swings and throwing mechanics, they aren't worried about winning games against other MLB teams, let alone a DII school.
When the first scrimmage of the spring training schedule is equal to the elimination game in the NCAA tournament get back with me.
Of course upsets occur in college baseball, especially in mid-week games that don't impact a conference race. But Nebraska didn't drop a Tuesday night game to Wayne State in early April with its #5 starter on the mound, they were dominated by a sub-.500 team from the Patriot League in a win-or-go-home game. Slight difference there, but I'm glad to know this isn't football. I was wondering why they kept playing after the 4th quarter, and why nobody was wearing a face mask.
almost regardless of who you're playing, tournaments are about who's hot. Clearly starting with the B1G tourney, NU was colder than cow manure in a Cumming county feedlot in January. Make no mistake, Yale and Holy Cross were in the NCAA tourney for a reason. They at least have some talent and NU just dribbled it down their legs. We weren't going to get past OSU anyway but it's still disappointing to say the least.
1-6 in regionals is kicking ***. Don't let the naysayers say any different..
I can often buy into the "ran into a hot team" argument. But Holy Cross lost four its last five games by a collective score of 42-22. Other than beating Nebraska, Holy Cross last tasted the Win column on May 20.
When was the last time Nebraska finished the season as a "hot team"? It always seems like we are sputtering down the stretch.

You don't understand Erstad's philosophy. You should never get more excited or amped up for one single game over another as you should play ever game with the same intensity. Well he definitely proves that his teams believe his philosophy.
They (as some kool aid drinking Husker fans proclaim) that they finished hot this year. Come on now, they beat the hell out of Penn State.
