The Tar Heels still have work to do to make the ACC tournament (6 teams)

17th RPI ranked UNC is currently in 9th place with 12 points at 4-3 (tied with dook, but UNC loses the tiebreak)

But there are 4 teams at 14 points so a single win right now is the difference between 4th place and 9th place. Fortunately we close the season with 3 winnable games, and half the teams ahead of us do not have 3 games left (less opportunities for points).
  • @ #89 RPI Miami 0-7-1
  • #114 Cuse 1-6-1
  • #87 NCSU 4-1-2, somehow ahead of us
There is a chance that the NCSU game will serve as a de facto play-in game for an ACCT berth. (NCSU would have to beat Louisville or dook while we win out to be just 1 point behind us.)

We need to be a 3 or 4 seed to get a home game in the ACCT, and that is actually doable if we win out. Stanford and ND are effectively out of reach.

But if we win out we would pass NCSU, FSU, Louisville and Cal, guaranteeing at least a 5 seed. We would need #11 dook to lose or tie again to pass them (#25 Clemson is the best team they play) or #14 FSU to beat #2 UVA

Any UNC tie moving forward would be the same as a loss: 1 point will not help us catch anyone. we must play aggressive to put away these teams we should beat.

Note that FSU is in freefall: loss to ND, loss to Stanford and somehow they tied Cal at home which is a huge boon to us. They play UVA next and we actually want FSU to win if you can stomach that.

Thanks for the detailed breakdown of our situation - much appreciated!!
