It's funny, we lose 2 of 3 to duke last year, and they were pretty clearly better than us. We won the most important game, but I don't think we could have beaten them in a series.

In our regular season match against Wake, I felt like they out played us despite us getting the win. We were better during the championship game, but our margin for error last year was extremely tight.
Lost 2 out of 4 to Duke but yes. We lost both reg season matchups and then beat them in the ACCT and Final Four.

Yep and we were missing some key players due to injuries and national team call ups in the two regular season matchups. In the postseason, we were at full strength and won both matches, including a dominant performance in the Final Four. I disagree with the poster who said dook was better last season.

One seeded SEC team lost in the first round as Georgia lost 0-2 to Ohio State… would sure be sad for the SEC if another seeded team were to lose in the first round starting at 6 pm ET……………………………..

6string did you not see the players that are coming in for next year. We have the number 2, 7, 9, 11, and 13 rank players in the nation coming in next year. As someone stated earlier Anson left Damon with a mess to deal with when he retired suddenly. There was chaos when Damon took over. We were all surprised that he was able to win the whole thing with all that mess, players transferring out, going pro, etc. This year we had injuries, players being call up and a short bench. To make the NCAAT with all that going on in year two is amazing for him and his staff. With the players coming in next year, and if players who are underclassman stay and do not bolt out, this will be the first time we will be able to really see what he and his coaching staff can do with a fully healthy roster and with more depth for next year. Hopefully, we can get one or two good players to come in from the portal depending upon who stays and leaves. I am excited myself. Go Heels!

Let’s wait and see who actually shows up on campus before we draw any conclusions about anything. In the NIL/transfers era, commitments mean way less than they used to, and even if you land a great player, you might only have them for one season. Also, with the NWSL abolishing the college draft, everyone is a free agent now and pro teams are moving to claim the top prospects younger than ever. And with the explosion of the womens’ game in Europe, there are just so many other paths for top players to take now.

i hate it and miss the good old days, but massive roster turnover and uncertainty is just a fact of life now. I hope we can bring back our top young talent from this team and all of those stars we’ve signed come to Chapel Hill and stick around for a while, but that’s more unlikely than it is likely.

Glad we got that goal back quickly. This has been an ugly game so far. I agree we have had the better run of play for the most part, but that’s means nothing without goals. I thought I’d be more impressed with Tennessee, but I’m not. We can and should win this game.

My main question is where the hell is Lauren Malsom? She is 100% one of our best 11 players and should be starting.

This male announcer on ESPN sucks…he sounds like some guy who never played competitive soccer in his life. Kind of par for the course throughout the year. It’s unfortunate that the network doesn’t do a better job covering this sport. We didn’t even get starting lineups before kickoff. With all of the technology and data available today, you’d think they’d put a little more effort into it.
I do like the female announcer though…former UT player who at least adds something to the conversation and surprisingly she hasn’t been a total UT homer…she’s been very professional.

I’m highly skeptical of rankings of any soccer players coming out of high school into college. So much of it is political, what club you play for, who you know, as well as self-promoting. Too many players go unnoticed much less the number of players who are already signing contracts before finishing high school. Maybe that changes with revenue sharing and players getting paid, but I doubt it.

Jriv23 its kind of a running joke with me. I’m always calling for bigger, faster, stronger and more physical. We could go undefeated and beat everybody by 5 goals and I’d still be saying the same thing. I think it’s partially because of some of those FSU loses where I thought that was the difference and also because I just don‘t have the X&O.s knowledge that most of you do. But tonight, we can all agree, GO HEELS!
