The squad for Southeast Open on Sunday was announced today. 28 guys wrestling. The 8 not wrestling are: Guanajuato (133), Hepner (165), Hickey - FR (125/133), Nugent (157), O'Boyle (174), Ogunsanya (174), Schlett (184), Terukina (125)
I think it's pretty common for upperclassmen to skip this event, especially if there is even a minor injury...so not too surprised that Hepner, Ogunsanya, Terukina not wrestling
Areas of interest for me:
We'll see 6 of the 7 true frosh wrestle (all except for Hickey). And all of the RS-Frosh except for Schlett. We'll start to see more of what we have for the future. Particularly interested in Younger after he beat O'Neill in Blue / White.
Only 3 of our 28 will be wrestling in the Freshman / Soph division (Botello, Sipes, Levy). In years past, there was bigger proportion in the lower division which probably speaks to our confidence in the last two recruiting classes.
Weight clarity: Scott listed at 141, same as last year. Wonder if they would consider moving him or Simcox up to 149 if they are clearly part of our "best 10". Daracott is listed at 165...M1 had logically speculated he could move down to 157 to avoid competing with Hepner for starting spot at 165.
Finally, interested in our 5 guys at 184 to see if anyone can separate themselves from the crowd. Similar with the 3 at 149. And finally, most interested in Platt and Simcox results, in terms of the 2nd year wrestlers.
