Under $200 wrist watch

Any suggestions? That range obviously puts me in the price point of a bottom barrel citizen or a decent seiko. Those were the two brands I was looking at.

there's no better bang for buck than orient in your price range. you'll typically find better deals at longislandwatch, discount watch store, etc than at their website. on your budget, i'd personally go to http://forums.watchuseek.com/forum.php and purchase something used from the members buy/sell area. guys there flipping basically like new watches constantly. just be sure to check the sellers rating. you'll probably be able to pick up a nicer watch by not wasting money on the NIB price plus taxes, etc.

I bought a Victorinox last year for $275. It was $550 for a year or so and found it for half off. Good looking watches.

I was actually intrigued by the timex metropolitan. I hate the looks of the fitbit and garmin type watches, but this one is ok.

I bought one of those because I liked the look and the lighted dial feature. Its nice considering the price. Unfortunately, the thing ticks so loudly I can't stand it. After a while it was like the ticking intro to the show 24. I had to give it away.

A cell phone only gives you the time to the nearest minute. My watch gives the time to the nearest second.

I bought a Citizen Watch as a dress watch for $180 at Kay Jewelers. The band fastener was always a little difficult to release and it got progressively worse. One day I could not get the watch off and had to get pliers to release the fastener after 10 minutes of struggling with it. I returned the watch to Citizen to get a new band. The watch was still under warranty. To my surprised they charged me $65 for the band and told me the band was not covered under the warranty. I contacted their customer service people and they were snippy and arrogant, and told me to take my silly little problem to Kay.

Never by another watch from this company.

First, do your research on pricing. Wild price variances in the watch world. Second, figure what you like. Do you want a grab and go quartz or prefer the sweep second hand on an automatic that you will have to wear a lot of the time or reset and wind when it stops? I'm a diver guy myself and Seiko makes some great ones. The one below is a classic and can be had for under 2 bills.

I'm in your same boat. My father-in-law spent $20K on Rolexes for he and my mother-in-law. My mother-in-law has since passed away and my daughter now has that one. I wouldn't give you more than $100 for any watch. Just don't see paying orders of magnitude more than necessary for something. There are many expensive items I like and I don't mind paying extra if I feel like I'm getting something for my money. What does a Rolex do better than a Timex?
They aren't any more attractive than dozens of other dress watches that cost a fraction...they don't keep time any better...

I've been into watches as long as I can remember, originally stemming from my Dad. Has always been cool to me that a nice watch, if cared for, will outlive it's owner and then some. Something with a story. Inherited a nice watch from my Dad when he passed, one I saw him wear every day and brings back a lot of good feelings when I pop it on. Bought nice watches when each of my kids were born....will someday pass them along myself.

Anyways, people don't seem very nostalgic anymore at least in terms of heirlooms, collections etc...if having a nonsensical collection of some kind is weird by today's standards that's fine by me. I know I'm not going to lose any sleep on my deathbed that I dropped some coin on something my kids (and beyond) can enjoy long after I'm gone.
