Although it is consistent, the media seems to give us the same practice report that Wilbon, Morgan, Newby, Gerry, and a few others are doing well. Although good to hear, who has been shining that isn't getting any pub? Does anyone know if there are any players slowly making their way up the depth chart. I've read a few random articles and other sites that say CJax is starting to come on, but curious of who else is making some waves?

Of the Freshman, Ozigbo is the one that surprised me a bit. W have decent depth at RB, but he's getting serious consideration.

I think the signing of Stevenson might of lit an extra fire in him. Basically showing the staff that "hey, you only needed 1 RB in this class" competition breeds excellence and the RB position at NU is showing it IMO

I think the rise of true freshmen Dedrick Young and Aaron Williams on defense. Plus, the rise of Nick Gates and the resurgence of Jamal Turner on offense.

Nick Gates is a big one. I hoped he would be ready to go by next season, never have been overly impressed with Sterup. He didn't dominate at the class C level in HS the few times I watched him. Gates asserting himself is a pleasant surprise

A healthy Jamal Turner on offense, and a healthy Kevin Williams on defense.

So many flashing its amazing. Think we have some coaches who communicate vision; then get kids to rep it. If Jamal T becomes the reality of his potential, its huge for our offense, takes the pressure off DPE

I think the early returns with the true freshman and even the redshirts and stuff, if they do well when the lights come on, Riley can walk into any home in America and talk about playing time and developing players early with credibility. That might do a little something extra to recruiting.

Luke Gifford. Kid reminds me of Jeff Tarpanian. He will need to get bigger in the next few seasons, but he's going to be an NFL caliber player.

Media reporting that Ozigbo won't redshirt (though Stevenson probably will) and Antonio Reed is likely to play this year as well.

I've heard almost nothing about Reed and suddenly he's playing this year... great on special teams, or what?

Also, heard good things about Adam Taylor last couple practices, we might get the Adam Taylor we were expecting eventually. Just might take a while to come all the way back from injury.

Lots of people weren't real happy with NU offering him, and now he's poised to play as a true freshman. He's proving himself.

I never had a problem with the offer. Imo, he's a classic Big Ten running back. But I never dreamed he would earn early PT and be in line to play over Adam Taylor.

That's where I'm at. I expected a RS and him making the rotation his RS SO year

Agree with this one. Sterup's older brother Matt was a dominant player in high school. Zach seemed very invisible at times in games even at that level. I think he has physical tools but lacks aggression/meanness to really excel.

Let's see how he does on the field. My main concern is he speed, or lack of it. So it remains to be seen how the coaches are going to use him.
