satisfactory progress? moving forward? I guess that's pretty simple but I guess most were hoping for something more dramatic to take place this year... seems like we were getting our asses kicked a little more soundly last year save the UF Saturday deal... could be wrong there but some inside analysis comparing where we are now vs last year would be cool... I guess...

overall era is much better, over twice as many quality starts, reduction in errors and higher fielding percentage. We should have won on Friday to give us seven conference wins, but it didn't happen. Our rpi is in the top 36 or so and we just got through with a terrible front loaded schedule: #1 Vandy, # 4 Florida, at the time # 19 Auburn, a Georgia team in the top four in the conference in wins and # 12 Arkansas. This weekend is probably new #1 or #2 South Carolina and then the down part of the conference begins: Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss and LSU. We are only two out in the West and most of the teams ahead of us are getting into the meat of the schedule. We are in the thick of the race for both Hoover and a regional, we just can't get swept this weekend by the Gamecocks. All of this and we still have only two recruiting classes of Cohen on the field: next year will bring more power arms and all of the Freshmen will be Sophomores. Both of these classes were ranked which none were for a good while. We are making progress, but it may be slower than some fans think we should: I personally think we are right on track.

Lost 14 SEC games in a row and beat LSU in the finale to finish 6-24.<div>

That's a tough schedule, front loaded as you said. Remaining SEC schedule: opponents RPI #3, #39, #64, #31, #30.

BTW, as of right now, State's RPI is #27.

we just about got swept the rest of the year last year after that 5-10 start....

I think we will do much better from here on out than we did last year... it can't get any worse...when you are rock bottom, ain't nowhere else to go....

but then again we sucked so bad last year that a little progress still doesn't make us a good team. But, as opposed to last year, we seem to be good in some spots and bad in some spots. On the down side I can't for the life of me understand how you can leave a shortstop in the game that has as good a chance of throwing the second leg of the double-play into the opposing teams dugout as he does of getting it to first base. But then maybe I'm just expecting too much out of the most important defensive position on the field.

To sum up, some of our players seem better but our coach-level decision making seems just as bad or worse.

we were 3rd in the conference in fielding, and 7th in hitting and pitching. That counts the whole season, not conference play only. I don't know where we were last year, but I'm happy with the improvement.
